What a great product! Dad has dementia and prone to fall when he gets out of bed. The sensor functions effectively, wiped down and mat can be washed. It alerts the carer instantly to get to him quickly. The chime does not agitate dad! Unfortunately, it is battery operated. Product info suggests it can be connected to power. Have been told this detail will be removed from description as is discontinued. Keith, called me immediately back when i stated battery was being drained within the week. He explained it depends how often the sensor goes off, which is reasonable. I still wish it was plug in power operated! However, Keith sent ocer a ‘bucket’ full of batteries to keep us going. Great customer service!

Very happy as it alerts you immediately as previously had chancers tried to steal a number of items in the hot summer when doors left open for ventilation.

Firstly, just to say I haven’t been paid or bribed or offered any free gift to write this review. I’m a paying customer and bought this item after reading through a mix of reviewsI care for someone who has vascular dementia. I bought 2 mats to place one either side of her bed so I can hear when she’s out of bed during the night and needs help. (Equally though, they could be used as a door mat so you can hear when someone crosses a threshold).I bought the ‘alarm mat’ (a black plastic looking rectangular pad with a wire attached), and recommend buying a ‘covering mat’ (sold separately), which lays on top of the alarm mat and not only protects the alarm mat, it also gives the overall appearance of any normal mat. I would highly recommend also paying a little extra and buying the ‘adapter’ plug (sold separately). It gives you peace of mind that the mats will be active when switched on, whereas batteries run out and the mat stops working and you never know when that might happen!Because of the mixed reviews and the expense, I decided to just buy one mat first, try it out and then order another.When the mat arrived it was quite easy to set up, using the instructions provided.Attached to the alarm mat is a wire that plugs in the wall. The wire easily tucks under the bed so the wire is hidden and when the ‘covering mat’ is added, it just looks like an ordinary, everyday mat (wires would have attracted her curiosity - and not in a good way!)Once the mat is in place there are two types of corresponding units that make a sound when pressure is put on the alarm mat (ie when she puts her foot on it). One is a portable unit that you can carry around and the other is a unit that plugs in the wall. I haven’t used the portable unit as I use the alarm mat mainly for night time, so mine is plugged in the sockets near my bedside. (I suggest if you use the unit that plugs in the mains at night time, you have it quite nearby, as the alarm keeps going off until pressure is no longer on the mat. And with a 93 year old it can take sometime to move off the mat resulting in waking up the whole house!)There is a handy volume control so you can have the alarm as loud or quiet as you wish (handy little function if you use the mat at night and don’t want to wake everyone up!).I have to say these mats are an absolute life saver. I am so pleased I bought them. They have allowed me to get some much needed sleep at night instead of staying awake, worrying she’d fall trying to get out of bed.After a few months use, however, we had a catastrophe when one of the mats stopped working and the other worked intermittently.(On that point, I would recommend you take a little extra care with the alarm mat, treating them with some respect as there are delicate wires within the mat and although they can withstand the purpose intended, take care to avoid folding them often, or treating them too roughly).I messaged the seller (Power Options) via Amazon late one evening hoping to get a quick resolution (and some sleep soon). Very pleased to say I received a response early the very next morning, offering to call me.I spoke to a charming gentleman who couldn’t be more helpful. He was very understanding and immediately offered to get 2 replacement mats in the post that same afternoon. There was no argument and no question even, of me having to return the mats first.The replacement mats arrived the very next day, as promised. (The lovely considerate gentleman had even sent them by courier as there was the chance of a postal strike).Both mats are now working perfectly and have been for the past couple of months. Thankfully sleep at night has resumed (mine that is).I honestly can’t speak highly enough about the product and especially the service. It gives me huge peace of mind, having spent quite a bit of money on 2 alarm mats, knowing I can either pick up the phone or message the company, if there are any problems. More importantly, they are very willing to help. Faultless customer service!I don’t write many reviews (you can probably tell why not by the length of this one!) but going on my own experience I would say if you are unsure about buying this mat, don’t hesitate. And there’s no reason to doubt you’d get the same efficient first class service as I did. They seem a genuine and caring company. The mats have been an absolute God send and although a little expensive, for me they have been worth every penny as they have given me peace of mind - and, most importantly, she hasn’t fallen once since we’ve had the mats 🤞🏼

I bought this product for my elderly mother and it worked very well for the few weeks she used it. Unfortunately she had to go into residential care so it sat unused in her house for 3 months until I passed it on to a friend. Unfortunately it wouldnt work so I messaged Mat on Guard who replied immediately and referred my friend to their engineer who was actually on holiday but sorted it for her. Best customer service ever and highly recommend - Many thanks from 2 happy customers

I bought Mat-on-Guard for a relative with dementia who had recently fallen in the night. This product has given us and the carers complete peace of mind. It is totally reliable and the alarm signal goes of as soon as a foot or pressure is put on the mat next to the bed. We use it in the evening and through the night. We have both receivers so that if you move around in the house you can take the portable receiver with you in a pocket. I began using the battery power unit for the mat which worked fine. I ordered the plug in pack for the mains which we now use instead. The reason for this was that it avoided any need for battery changes which seemed safer for our situation. I have covered the mat with a standard bath mat with a rubber backing (M&S) which works fine and does not slip. This has been a life changer for us as the evenings and nights are way more relaxed. We have been using the mat for about 2 months now and can totally recommend this product.

This is a very expensive product for what it does. The connections are flimsy and mine has now stopped working. I’ve had to uninstall the battery because the alarm is simply going off all the time - even when disconnected from the mat. When it works - it’s great. But for the price - and the job it’s doing, it needs to be a lot more robust.Update: The seller dealt with this issue VERY promptly- through Amazon. The mat is now working again!

My mother is 100 years old and suffers with minor dementia, despite this she is very much mobile, although she is a little unsteady on her feet and can be confused at times, however, this mat has been a complete game changer in keeping her safe, giving the family and her Carer peace of mind. Customer Service is simply amazing, we had an immediate response to a query we had and the problem was swiftly and generously resolved. We thoroughly recommend this professional and friendly company!
