Purchased this food because it did not have any chicken or chicken byproducts. We were hoping to introduce a new food for a little variety. The product has minimal recognizable fish flakes or pieces, and a lot of very thick, gelatinous gravy. It didn’t smell bad to me. Our cat gave it a sniff, looked up at me, and then walked away from the food dish. He laid down a distance away and stared at it for almost an hour. We know that behavior…the food is a no-go. Our cat is a “liquids first” eater and prefers thinner broths in general. After reading other comments here, refusing to eat the food doesn’t seem uncommon. We can’t say if our cat’s refusal is because he didn’t care for the thick gravy or because there was something off with the quality. The reason for four stars is because the company stands by its Wellness Guarantee. I contacted customer service for a refund and it is being processed now - no issues. We appreciated that. Lesson learned though: variety may be “the spice of life,” but when it comes to cat food, we are just going to stick with the tried and true brands and flavors our cat will eat.

My cats are FERAL for this food. I used to feed them Sheba Perfect Portions, but after watching a video from a pet nutritionist, decided to change to Wellness' brand, and the change has been remarkable. My 7 year old cat that acts like a senior citizen absolutely loves the food and her fur is so much healthier and shinier. They are still picky (3 cats total) and specifically like the skipjack tuna and salmon and I have not been successful with other flavors, but I will keep buying this one on repeat.

My senior girl cat has now become very picky and won’t eat anything but this wet food; other wet food she throws up and she doesn’t touch dry food (my other two younger boy cats gobble up whatever I put out for them just like she used to when she was younger.) The problem is how expensive this food is now. $42 for the large cans? A few months ago I recall buying it for almost half that and it’s just going up up up. She also begs for the food literally all day long bc she wants to be able to snack on it like the dry food and doesn’t understand why I don’t leave it out like the dry food all day. I guess senior cats can just become more high maintenance. I also wonder if she’s getting dementia and forgets she already ate? Yet she’s thin and healthy and her coat looks amazing since I started giving her this food. So…I'm glad she has something she’ll eat that doesn’t make her throw up and makes her coat nice and fluffy and keeps her healthy (no more throwing up! Yay for my rugs too!) It would be 5 stars because it’s amazing food except for the super price increase so one star off for that.

cats opinions run hot & cold with this particular brand. they like the wellness variety that contains ingredients similar to this which includes shrimp. given the cats reluctance to eat some cans but reject others—my impression is that the ingredients must significantly vary from batch to batch. this one may be the lesser quality parts of the catch. it is refused but the other wellness fish formula is happily consumed. read into that whatever you will. who really knows what goes on inside the mind of short furry beings?
