Ielts a1
My fiance found the book a great help for practicing. The audio download did not work following the url or the qr code. I was not going to purchase the cd for nearly £30 when it was said to be a free download. After calling them I was told it should have said Cambridge one site if you google it then create an account then type your code that was scratched off.

Disappointed in Cambridge English as I expected better
I purchased this book to try to help me understand the types of tasks and topics that would arise in the IELTS Life Skills Test A2 level, to help my husband prepare for the test. I was also hoping for some useful practice materials that we could use. I have teaching experience, but have found very limited information about the A2 exam, so thought it might be a good idea to have a look at the A1 guide, as the test is similar in format.I am very familiar with Cambridge English materials and expected far better than this. The "book" itself is more like a leaflet than a book- very thin and for some absurd reason has 9 blank pages at the back. What has infuriated me more than anything is the fact that some of the questions are repeated! For such a small book, with only four practice tests I would not expect the questions to be repeated on each test! For section 1a, they used the question "Tell me about your favourite food. What food do you enjoy eating?" and the second one, "Tell me about the people you speak to every day" for ALL FOUR TESTS! It is pointless to provide four practice tests if you are only going to repeat the content. There are a few useful comments, particularly at the beginning, but the test tips are generally pure rubbish (e.g. take water, make sure your phone is turned off). What would be far more useful would be advice about the type of content that might appear, more detail about the topics and perhaps some subcategories you can expect, examples of common mistakes, what it means when it specifies you should be able to "persuade" etc. This book has none of this!To be honest, it is bad enough that immigrants are asked to complete such an absurd test in order to live in this country. (As a native speaker, I have never been in a situation where I have had to talk for a minute about paintings, which is what is expected for the A2 level according to the sample paper). When you then consider that there is so little information out there that you are forced to purchase this rubbish, it convinces me that this is purely a money making scheme, with no real benefit to this country or the immigrant. I'm really disappointed in Cambridge English materials. They seem to have no idea what people have riding on these exams. If you have to prepare for this exam, then I wish you the best of luck. If you are not at all familiar with the exam then you may find this book useful but if you are are familiar and are looking for further guidance then prepare to be disappointed. No doubt you will purchase it anyway, as it is one of the only books out there. I've also purchased a copy of Global ELT's Succeed in IELTS Life Skills A1, so will leave a comment below if I find that one any better.
