Only draw back is the small fortune I am investing in Kilner jars during this canning season. The ball book of, canning is also fabulous and if you are serious about canning and preserving as much as it dents my patriotic pride to say so, with these two books as proof, American canners know best.

Absolutely wonderful canning and preserving book. A must have for canners.
Wonderful book. I have recently started canning and have heard great things about this book so I bought it. Everything I've heard was right on the money. Great instructions and safety tips and fabulous recipes!

Down to earth
I like this book because there no hysteria. It's just sensible down to earth informational instructions with an necessary precautions given, as though the reader was an intelligent human being. It's not in the least patronising, as some can be. It could be said that there isn't a huge library of recipes, but really, and especially for the beginner, there is plenty to be going on with and they can all be adapted within the safety guidelines and ingredient ratios. I do have one criticism, which is actually a significant one, again, especially for newbies. The recipes don't give the expected number of jars produced. Big niggle for me. I have no idea how many jars to prepare for. Other than that good buy, plus being spiral bound...

All you need to know about canning.
This is my first year of preserving food by canning. The Amish book is straight forward and gives you all the information you need to pursue this preserving method. I have found it very useful and have enjoyed this new venture. I now have a number of shelves of canned fruits and vegetables, to add to my jams and chutneys. Roll on next year.

Great addition toward your self reliance.
Very well put together book on canning & preserves. Like the binder to allow the book to fully open. If the Amish don't do it it's not worth doing. Recommended.

No Different Than Any Other Canning Book
I found this canning book disappointing. I was looking for an Amish canning book which the Amish have a tradition of water bath canning. This book was written by non-Amish with only a slim connection to the Amish community as a neighbour. The book was heavy on pressure canning. This is a good example why Amazon needs to bring back the "See Inside" feature where some of contents could be seen to see if the book meets your needs. The word "Amish" in the title is quite misleading. While useful the book is no different than other canning books I have.
