Great Purchase
My 8 year old loves this Journal, only opens to her voice with password. Easy to set up and looks great. She has had great fun with it, loves storing bits in the secret compartment and writing secret notes on the note pad which is magically appears with the light which is included, this is a year old now and has worn well and still functions as it should. Little cheaper than some but does what the more expensive ones do. Very girly and a great buy for this age, especially now they seem to not want to play with dolls and the toys we played at this age.Prompt delivery, great price and good packaging. Would highly recommend.

Good buy if they're into Monster High, especially if you can get at a discounted price. Voice opening not so great though...
Great idea, and I was fortunate to get it at a really discounted price, which sort of made it a no-brainer. Bought for 5 and 7 year old girls who are really into Monster High.Pros: Notebook, secret ink pen (will likely get lost), light to show secret writing (from pen which is now lost), good outlet for them to think and write down (or draw) "private" things.Cons: The voice recognition to open it seems to be either really poor, or insanely sensitive. It can be really difficult to get it to either register consistently, or if you succeed there, to actually work to open the diary. I have had the most success by talking in a carefully measured, monotone voice, but that's pretty challenging for a younger child, especially then if they have to repeat it a week later to get it to open.But... they don't seem that bothered by this, so I guess I shouldn't be either.

Really good.
My daughter loves this. She loves the face that no one and I mean no one but her can open it. It was a little tricky to set the password at first but we just keep trying over and over, and got there in the end. She really loves it.

Really disappointing.
Disappointed. As mentioned in other reviews, the verbal password setting is very sensitive so took many attempts to get it open. If you say the password wrong too many times a very annoying alarm goes off (like a werewolf howl), there is no volume control either. My daughter saw this in a shop and had asked for it for her birthday present but was so disappointed it didn't work as it should have done. The front cover also had a big scratch on which we didn't notice until we'd taken it out of the box.Top marks for customer service though - was sent back to Amazon and we received a no quibble refund straight away.

One happy girl!
This was bought as a gift for my daughter. I couldn't get the 1 she asked for which was a g-tech pink 1 i think so i got her this. It was alot cheaper than the 1 she wanted but with this design she was more excited & happy. We've all had fun with it trying to work out how to do the password function but once you work out how to do that it's a great item!

The jury is out
My daughter got this for Christmas, she was very excited, but the happiness was marred by the fact that she had problems with the password. You are asked to record a password and then you have to repeat it before it will accept that as the required password, however, she was finding that it wouldn't accept her repeated password, or if it did, it then wouldn't accept the password when she later tried to open her diary. It caused A LOT of upset on Christmas day. The diary then completely forgot the password and let her in later on (not good that it cleared the password really, but on this occasion it saved the day as she could then use it again).I have since advised her to try and record a 'one word' password and to do so standing up (rather than crouched over it on her bed as she was doing) and to make sure she is standing up when she tries to open the diary and so far so good. Although we have the fall-back option of taking out the batteries if it doesn't let her in again so that it resets.

Disappointing and returned it...
Looks great but very disappointing. I gave it to my six year old daughter recently for her Birthday. The voice activated password didn't recognise her voice or my voice even though we repeated the password in EXACTLY the same tone and volume so therefore we couldn't open it plus you can't reset it wothout opening it which is useless if it won't accept your password. I have returned this item and wouldn't recommend it.

We can't get the secret compartment box to open using voice activation but it's no big deal as it works fine with the button
Bought for my 6 year old daughter. She loves it and likes to write secret messages with the invisible ink pen included. The voice activated opening is hit and miss. We can't get the secret compartment box to open using voice activation but it's no big deal as it works fine with the button. The voice activated opening of the diary itself works most of the time but even though we've put it on the lowest sensitivity setting (ie the tone of voice/way you say the password doesn't have to be exactly the same as when you set the password) it does occasionally refuse to open when I'm sure my daughter hasn't changed the way she says the password! I'd advice using a one to two syllable word as a password or it will just become frustrating trying to get it to open!
