Why doesn't it have an overglaze? Whats the point if you cant even wash it with a normal sponge?

Because of its reflective quality. If it were to be sealed then you would lose the reflective quality. Honestly you should only need a soft sponge in order to clean it the outside. I don’t see why you would need an abrasive sponge. Just wash it with a soft sponge and you will be OK. I’ve had no issues with mine.
