Need a quick an easy guide for revision? This is the one
This series is very good and I have been using it for a couple of years now. Most recent purchase is this one: New GCSE Literature AQA Poetry Guide: Power and Conflict Anthology for Grade 9-1 Course. It's great for students who are struggling to understand texts. It has an accompanying workbook which you have to purchase separately. It's so easy to use: on he inside of the front cover the themes for each poem is laid out in a quick reference table. The guide also includes: Section one - The poems from Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley to Checking Out Me History by John Agard. Section two: Themes -Power of Humans -Power of Nature -Effects of Conflict -Reality of Conflict -Loss and Absence -Memory -Negative Emotions -Identity -Individual Experiences Section three: Poetic Techniques from Forms of Poetry to Mood Section four: Exam Advice Section five: Improving and Marking Sample answers At the end of Sections one-three there are Practice questions At the end of Section four there are Sample Answer Answers to practice questions are at the end of the book. It is reasonably priced and well worth buying for struggling students or as a revision tool.

Very useful guide
I was terrible at poetry at school. I bought this book to help my daughter as she commences her GCSEs. The book breaks down each poem by analysing the poem literally line by line and also provides a rich background to the author of the poem and the historical setting of the poem. This helps my daughter understand the context in which the poem was originally written and thus the meanings behind the phrases that were used in the poem.
