The Foot Soldiers: A Sunday Times Thriller of the Month : Seymour, Gerald: desertcart.ae: Books Review: Fair price, for one of my favorite writers Review: My second Jonas Merrick book and he's already a favourite, beside George Smiley, Jackson Lamb and Bernard Samson. Rather a charmless, anti-social individual, enjoys playing the senile card to bluff opponents and leads a very mundane (boring) married life but that is where the humour comes from. Seymour has created a style of writing that puts the audience very much in Merrick's head and under his control. We are not told everything about Jonas' methods or intel but he is a supreme puppet master and guides the action inexorably towards a conclusion, sometimes violent. The other characters are wonderfully developed through dialogue, not long descriptive padding, that drives the plot relentlessly and keeps you reading. It's compelling stuff and your sympathies are engaged as the tension is ramped up deliciously. Have already got the next 2 in the series and can't wait to start them.

Highly recommended? Cumbersome, all over the place. Not worth reading.
