Make-Up Artistry

Unique and invaluable for a starting MU artist
I think there is some misunderstanding regarding this book.It is not a step-by-step guide to makeup looks. It will not guide you to the world of makeup products, brushes, looks etc as the usual book about makeup.I am getting my degree on professional makeup and I needed all the information that a makeup artist will need, be it for freelance work in TV or theatre, or for opening once establishment, or working in a salon. I have not been disappointed. This book is like having a senior MU artist taking you by the hand and teaching you the basics on each aspect of the trade. From safety regulations, to work ethics, to properly care for the face of the customer (before and after mu application) the writer covers everything I want to know... and many things I did not suspect I needed to know.A MU artist will need to know some basic hair styles, we have instructions for that too.We have wigs, beards, special effects all with details about TV or theatre.I like how it is divided on chapters each with its own aims and objectives at the beginning and a knowledge check at the end. I also like the layout of pages. I do not have to hunt relevant pictures or tables back and forth. Whatever it describes, its relevant tables are there in the same page. You have to see it to "feel" what I mean. There is one thing that bothers me, though. It needs some better editing. I see far too many grammar mistakes, "the" being omitted, "a"s and "an"s being messed up and worst of all I find many page references to be "00" eg "for details on the subject you can check that chapter (page 00)". And on a couple of occasions the actual numbers were wrong. But I cannot detract a star because that would be unfair for the whole of the book, which in my opinion is unique and invaluable for someone starting on the trade or even a seasoned artist who just wants to polish his knowledge.I cannot possibly include in the review all the things that this book covers. All I can say is that I am so very happy I bought this book.

Exactly what I wanted
I wanted a book to help me through my cosmetic makeup course and this has been perfect for me. It is definitely more for people wanting to become a makeup artist in media but it covered everything I needed for my course and I enjoyed reading the extras. I don't know what I would have done without it.

A bit disappointing!
This book is full of lots of written information but it is seriously lacking in step-by-step images.Whilst the text is very useful it really needs to be followed by pictures!I would be more inclined to recommend the Penny Delamar or Suzanne Le Quesne book.
