3 Set Joy Luck Palace Double Yolk Moon Cakes, 24.7 Ounce

The mooncake I grew up with is this traditional cantonese mooncake...has a glossy thin crust and lotus paste made from lotus seeds (creamy texture) and a dry-ish double egg yolk (representing prosperity and abundance). Joy Luck Palace mooncakes are made in Taiwan (country that has a reputation for reliable and safe food manufacturing). I cut in quarters to share with friends over green tea. A nice bit of sweet. 4 cakes in a tin, each separately wrapped, requiring refrigeration only after individual mooncake opened. Made with peanut oil so those with nut allergies be careful.

I love moon cakes with lotus seed paste and of course the duck eggs. These tasted so fresh. The yolks were a little hard but still savory as they should be. The lotus paste and pastry are fabulous. I like that the cakes are individually wrapped for freshness. The only negative was my tin arrived dented. Excellent price point. These are delicious and I would buy them again.

Despite moon cake season having already passed, I’m glad that I can still buy quality moon cakes at reasonable prices.

Wonderful treat! Wound up ordering twice more. Next time, though, will want to order the no-yolk variety, because the yolks inside the cakes tend to dry out, rendering the yolks tough and tasteless. Otherwise a great buy!
