Was ready to return.........
I bought these and as a novice "audiophile", I loved that a brand of high-end audio was in the wireless game. The review above is correct, the app didn't work which is how you control the main volume on the ear buds (volume gain) and then is is normally adjusted with your device or the side of the buds which have actual buttons. I was ready to return after not being able to hear them. Sounded about 30% volume. 4 days passed and FiiO finally got back to me when I was ready to box them up. They told me to do what I have already done which was install the FiiO app (which initially did not work). I installed it again and it must have had the new update because it connected right away. It is much, much louder now and I keep it about 3 notches from 100%. Very listenable and some audio or video is real loud (depending on quality).Once you get them working, they are a great sound and does remind me of IEM sound and separation. Not exactly but pretty close for wireless. I will keep using them for a few weeks and see.UPDATE: 1/09/2023Incredible, insanely incredible. I am so glad I kept these IEM's (that's what these are). FiiO asked me to download the app when it wouldn't connect, which I have done several times. I did that and to my surprise, it was updated and worked perfectly. With total control, volume adjustment, 10 band EQ and more. The only issue I am having is with the app, my "user" EQ settings will not save but I will play around with it more. They have reset and will go to flat every time. These are the best I have ever heard and I have about 15 wireless pairs. These might even hang with a few of my mid level IEM's. With the app working, the volume goes higher than I need. I am so happy with these and may order another pair.

One of the best tws for pure sound quality
The FW5 is an absolute beast of a set. Fiio has had years to perfect thier wireless devices with too many products to name. The FW5 is a triple driver hybrid which uses a traditional method of tuning rather than relying on the on board DSP to do all the digital tuning. Iw rite audio reviews for a certain website and many tws have come across my desk and I gotta say, the FW5 is one of the best when we are talking about pure sound quality. It has fantastic bass, great for vocals and a very energetic treble. The FW5 is very ergonomic and seals extremely well for a tws also. Another thing, this set looks flat out awesome. At the $150 price point you will not find a better sounding tws, please take my word for that. Oh, remember to give this set some burn in. Let them play for a couple weeks before you judge them. Those drivers need time to settle and after awhile you will see the true potential of the FW5. Some cons are the lack of features like wireless charging, anc etc. However, if audio and music matter the most than you'll love this set.

So, so disappointed.
I'm judging these by the same criteria I judge every other set of in-ear headphones that have failed me before. That is, they need to sound better than the $25 Koss SportaPro I've been using for decades. And which, I might add, have been plugged into a Fiio BTR5 for the last couple of years. So I had a lot of hope for these guys since I do like Fiio hardware. The FW5 are the best sounding in-ear headphones I've tried and they don't come close. Everything sounds tinny and, frankly, horrible. Now, the Fiio app does have a bunch of settings you can play with, including EQ. But it /constantly/ freezes and has to be restarted. It's basically unusable. I did try the built-in ones as well as tried playing with user settings, to no avail -- again, limited because the app is horrible. I'm using it on Android on a Pixel 7, not an obscure/underpowered phone. The "manual" is also a joke. Yes, it's a quickstart, but there's nothing better available on the website. These headphones come with two sets of tips, but nowhere does it tell you what the difference is. One is "balanced" (balanced for what?) and the other set is... HS18. Gee, thanks.Edited because I forgot to mention that the left earbud kept dropping momentarily while I was walking outside.I am very disappointingly returning these and going back to wires.

Constant connection issues
These headphones hate connecting to anything. They hate connecting to my phone, they hate connecting to each other, they ESPECIALLY hate connecting to the app. The case is flimsy and because the charging pins corrode easily the headphones don't always charge when you put them in there. The background hiss is pretty bad. The sound is fine but it's not worth the hassle, these were supposed to be my new everyday earbuds but they are now just backups sitting in my drawer in case of emergency

Sound Quality over Bells and Whistles
So these don't have all the features that other premium TWS earbuds seem to have these days(ANC, Transparency, Spatial Audio) but they sound better than most of them as well. They have independent audio control for the internal DAC, separate from your phone/device volume, and as a result they can get very loud. I've never personally come anywhere near max volume. The only issues I've really found is they may not function 100% correctly until you've downloaded the "Fiio Control" app and updated the firmware, and occasionally only one bud will connect so I have to put them back in the case to turn them off and back on again, but that's not a huge deal. Also, when you unpause audio it seems to stutter for a millisecond, then the audio will play normally. Again, not a big deal at all. I'm happy with these, and have used them pretty heavily at the gym and work for a couple of months now, so far so good.
