Little Acts of Grace

Finally a religious book with multicultural drawings!
I have a mixed-race family and after being disappointed looking for gifts at a Christian book store and only finding books and cards with Caucasian children in the drawings, it was wonderful to find this book. It has over two-dozen colorful drawings, of which more than ten contain children and adults of different ethnic backgrounds. The book makes efforts to succinctly explain why we bow our heads, dress nicely for church, use holy water, and etc, but some of the explanations could use a bit more detail to answer that favorite childhood question of "but, WHY?". Overall, this is an excellent book to give at the Baptism of any child.

A Great Place to Start
We were looking for a beginning level Religious Ed.type of book for our pre-k child. This is exactly what we were looking for. I was expecting when I ordered it for it to be a story of sorts. But it's not set up that way. It's set up so that each page is a seperate lesson/topic. Having the lesson ideas so short is great for the pre-K level child they can grasp the message quickly and you can elaborate in your conversation with the child. It's been a big help to be able to refer to it during mass and remind our child to listen to the priest. We bought this book along with the 'Just Like Mary' and 'The Mass Book for Children' books. I'm very excited about these books as a set and anticipate graduating from one up to the next. It would have been nice to have been able to purchase them in a set.

It fits well for any child wanting to learn but has trouble sitting still for a long period time (so like every kid
This is detailed enough for younger readers and simple enough for comprehension. It fits well for any child wanting to learn but has trouble sitting still for a long period time (so like every kid! lol) The lessons are sweet and I love reading this to them

Great gift
I bought several copies of this book for First Communion gifts for friends. The text is simple, but the message is great! It explains many of the traditions of the Catholic church in a simple, kid-friendly way. I think this will make a great gift for any young Catholic! (And even help their parents understand some things they've always wondered!) I am going to buy a copy for our family as well!

Commentary on Little Acts of Grace
The book was an excellent tool for teaching Catholic practices and very useful in the sacramental preparation of Holy Eucharist and even for the RCIA programs in the parishes. It summarizes those important practices that we sometimes forget. I would highly recommend it to all catechists. it would be an excellent gift to First Communicants. The price was right and I would rate it with 5 stars.

... can do as an act of grace to show love and respect to God
Is very helpful in pointing out to you child what small gestures they can do as an act of grace to show love and respect to God. It can also be helpful in reminding adults of the tiny details we forget, that mean much.

Reference book for adults.
Learn things about the faith you may have forgotten. You (adult) read it first! I learned to explain some things to my adult friends. For example dressing respectfully for mass...Also, learn, or be reminded of simple traditions of the faith...Also look for the lil mouse....

Nice but..
There are some really nice bits to this book and as a catholic it would be hard to dislike it wholesale, but I think how much you like it depends on your personality and how you want your children to relate to God. I think it would work for parents and kids who go to SSPX and who want obedience from their kids. I'm not saying this is a bad thing but it makes me uncomfortable for my child. I want a little bit more understanding and questioning and feeling. So for me and my child I feel it is a little bit too prescriptive - like the page about distractions in church: at the age my child is I would be worried if she didn't get distracted. My worry is that taken all at once my child would have no way of living up to all the expectations in the book and it would just turn her away.Having said that, in small doses I think there are really nice bits to this book and it's a really nice way to teach your child about the mass. I will definitely use it, but one page at a time to explain specific things, rather than as a whole book to read cover to cover in one sitting.

Good teaching tool
This is a great book. I bought this a couple years ago and my daughter loved the book. The pictures are cute and the words are simple for kids to understand and also a reminder for adults too. Sometimes I will read the book again to my daughter to remind her of how to act in the church...when she forgets. :)
