Dragon's Crown Volume 1 (1)

An Age Forgotten
First and foremost this is an incredibly well illustrated book. It very much respects the source material. (The game of the same name ) DC vol. 1 is an absolute joy for the eyes, and although some of us don't understand why this is a good thing, there are still plenty of us that do. In a word, to put a studio like Udon, and a franchise like Dragon's Crown in the same place at the same time is a stroke of genius. If you love fantasy and beautiful characters, this book will not disappoint.

D&D Manga Style!
I bought this book based on the Dragon's Crown video-game that I've played. The cast of characters are overly stylized and disproportional, with accentuating bulging muscles and other body parts! The quirky band of characters are brave, adventurous, and humorous at times. The art style is nicely done, but there are some action sequences where I struggled to figure out what was happening in a panel. Some scenes seem to splash Japanese Kanji in what I can only assume are sound effects--it adds to the confusion of some action scenes. The females are drawn in overtly fashion with chest, buttocks, and thighs spilling out in quite a few scenes, but there's nothing too inappropriate in-between scenes. All in all it seems generally appropriate for teenage audiences. Each chapter is fairly short, but the action and story are quite satisfying. Between chapters the author explains his insights and motivations in designing each character. This was a nice bonus to see, as I'm a fan of the video-game as well. The book definitely gives personality to the characters, that gives some very nice fan service to the video-game. If you like dungeons & dragons style adventuring, mixed with anime styled drawn action, then this manga is certainly worth a read. I enjoyed it.

Fun Read
Since Dragon's Crown Pro was said to going to have a western release in 2018, I thought I might get this manga. I haven't play the game, but I heard there's a lack of story aka nothing about the characters and their backstories. It's all about the quest to get the dragon's crown with side quests along the way. Are there even cutscenes or individual arcs for the characters? If you played the game let me know, I'm on the fence on whether to get the game or not despite it's visuals and gameplay. I lean more on story and characters.-Back to the manga-Besides art, the fantasy setting was what drawn me to the manga. Art is amazing, very detailed and lively. As for story, it's standard. A group of people came together with their own motives, take on quests and shenanigans happens during their journey. Plenty of humor and not all that serious or dark. Enjoy the interactions between characters and it was an overall fun read. Most likely get volume 2.

Who will take the Crown?
A epic series of a group of adventurers comes to life in this first volume of the Dragon Crown comic. Meet up with the iconic group, the Heavily Armored Fighter, the sauve Wizard, the tomboyish Elf Archer, the busty Sorceress, the Axe swinging Amazon, and the comic relief Dwarf as they go on a series of quests to protect the kingdom from the "gate" in order to locate the legendary Dragon Crown and save the world. But of course in the background there are those who wish to bring about the darkness that prophecy warns about. Can this group of unusual personalities join together to save them all?I enjoyed this, while the book read left to right, the panels read right to left. All of the characters get their face time, and a lot of humor is also thrown in as well. I do wish the second volume will be out soon as they left on a entertaining cliffhanger.

Fun, if a bit generic
This manga is in the spirit of a table top rpg game. Each chapter is a more or less self contained adventure the party finds itself in, with a plot only really comes out in the end. The characters also are rather bare bones, but each of The party have enough going for them to be enjoyable. The art is also really nice, although some of the fe!ale character designs are rather stylized for my taste. I know that's how they looked in the game this is based off of, so I guess the manga artist has his hands tied. I'm conclusion, this manga isn't the greatest example of its genre, but I liked it well enough and I'd say it's worth it's price.

If Dungeons and Dragons was a manga...
My first experience with Dragon's Crown was several yeas ago with the PS Vita game. The art style of the game is what really drew my attention... and the Sorceress. The game was fine but it was the art that had a lasting impression on me.Fast forward to a week ago when I find out that a manga series is being made based on the game. I bought the book, not knowing what to expect, on name recognition alone. I'm pleased to say that I wasn't disappointed. The art is lovely and drawn with care. The story is your standard fantasy swords-and-sorcery but I think it's supposed to be. It holds pretty closely to the game. There's plenty of humor and fan-service.I'm not an avid manga reader but I look forward to the next volume.

Kindle format is weird.
The story seems to fit well with the game.My biggest annoyance is that all the panels read right to left but the pages are left to right. It is really confusing. Also, the 2 page spreads should be 2 pages. Not a small little space in a single page that takes forever to zoom (or not zoom at all in the Kindle Cloud Reader).

Missing some dragons and plot but a fun read
Dragon's Crown, based on the game of the same name, sees a group of wonderfully/ridiculously (take your pick) exaggerated designed typical fantasy characters, including a prettyboy wizard, hyper buff dwarf and beautiful sorceress who's going to have back problems, embark on a quest to retrieve said crown. Well sort of, part of the problem of this being an adaptation of the game is that it doesn't really do much in the way of world building, and each chapter is a pretty much unconnected tale of exploring your different dungeon types, while while fine for a game where the focus is on the action here it makes things feel a bit disjointed and unclear as to what's actually happening in the world. There are plenty of fights at least, though they're not the most exciting I've seen, and a bit more blood wouldn't go amiss frankly to make them a bit more gritty, but they're not bad. What possibly I found most entertaining was the interaction between the adventures, not un-similar similar to Goblin Slayer, the banter and joking between them was rather enjoyable, and helped add an extra layer to it. I liked the art, it's generally pretty detailed, and the styled characters look good (although yes there is quite a lot of skin on show for some of them, which might bother some), and while the fight scenes can be a bit short and brief they're decently presented. If I could give this 3.5 stars I would, feels a bit harsh 'only' giving 3, I certainly enjoyed it - but the plot feels disjointed and jumps around without any real connection between stories, which might be fine for a game but for manga it doesn't work so well. Perhaps part 2 will clear this up more, I shall see.

Simple but good fun.
If you're a fan of the game and like Japanese comics then you'll probably know what to expect from this comic. The art is great and the comics are generally enjoyable, but it's nothing revolutionary.SPOILERS: It basically just goes through the levels of the game. The comic is split into chapters which take the story along. The characters have their own personalities which is a nice touch.

A must have for fans of the game
The art in this manga is amazing and definitely manages to match the gorgeous images from Vanillaware's game. The main characters from Dragon's Crown are all here and are given great personalities. Their banter and interactions are a joy to see. The way they managed to integrate the game's missions into the story is great and you'll see a lot of the monsters and places that you'd expect. Overall this is a must have for fans of the game.

Loved this manga
I really loved reading this manga as it's full of hilarious parts and I feel bad for the dwarf as he seems to get a thought time. I really can't wait for the next volume!
