Scariest. Book. Ever. (Goosebumps House of Shivers #1)

So nostalgic
This was so reminiscent of the classic Goosebumps books, I literally couldn’t put it down! We have all of the classic Goosebumps books so when I seen R. L. Stine was coming out with a new series I couldn’t resist requesting it. We love Goosebumps so this was super fun and nostalgic to read even for a MG book.Twins, Billy and Betty, are to be left with their eccentric Uncle Wendell while their parents fly to London for work for two weeks and they really don’t want to be left with someone that’s practically a stranger to them. Once they arrive, they find their strange Uncle Wendell who tells them a book from his collection has been stolen. The scariest book ever. And it must never be opened or fall into the wrong hands. They must catch the thief and retrieve the book to keep it safe. Thus entails a classic Goosebump story but in my opinion, more modern, more put together, and with more enticing monstrous creatures than his previous ones (or maybe I’ve just seen the others a gazillion times.)This was a fun and twisty story figuring out Uncle Wendell and the truth behind him and the book. Interesting characters, interesting story plot, fun haunted and spooky setting, nice twist, and he keeps you interested and guessing until the end. Fun for the whole family. My ten year old daughter loved the story. Particularly the creepy monsters in the Weyward forest! I loved that R. L. Stine brought back his Goosebumps series with a bookworm story! If your children love Goosebumps, you’re gonna want to get this new series and it releases September 19th, just in time for October and book fairs!4.5 stars

Stine's Got it
This was a great Goosebumps book that still has a the feel of the classic 90s books but is completely modern. Stine still writes a compelling, fun, on-the-edge-of-your seat, spooky kids adventure book. He still gives the reader kid or adult complete credit for intelligence rather than writing for the lowest common denominator. This book was fun, intricate, lots of twists and turns...it's kind of a fresh start for Goosebumps. But still the same Stine-tingling fun!

Stine’s still got it!
Got this one from NetGalley and there couldn’t have been a more timely approval. Just in time to fit in nicely to my Goosebumps July. And I wanted to read something from every series too! When Billy and Betty are dropped off at their uncle’s, they find it hard to believe their parents would leave before he even opened the door. The reader should too, as not everything is as it appears! So when he tells them that he is the owner and protector of the scariest book ever, a book that if opened could unleash unbelievable horrors into the world, they don’t really know what to believe. To be honest, I was a little nervous this would be too similar to the book plot line used in the first Goosebumps movie, but luckily it’s completely different. One of my favorite twists ever, especially in the fact that it was the same twist over and over. Super funny and still worked each time. This one was fun, inventive, silly, and spooky. And more importantly, still shows us that Stine’s still got it. Personally a 4/5* for me. Scholastic and NetGalley, feel free to keep delivering these to my kindle.Had to buy a copy too!

Really fun read
If it’s just about the delivery and quality of the book. 5 stars. The story itself 4 stars.A very descriptive writing style lets you picture each scene very easy to picture. Lots of twists and turns will have you questioning what’s real until the very end. R L Stine has still got it!

Gripping adventure
My son and I have read a bunch of Goosebumps books together and this one had him on the edge of his seat. I have to admit, I was sucked in as well. The cover art is really cool and features a man bat, a creepy creature from the story. Get it - you need it.

Just "okay" not the best
I've read a lot of Goosebumps books since I was a kid until now. I just think some have interesting stories/concepts etc. This one did not. I don't feel this one even tried to be "scary". It had a lot of stuff going on, but seemed more "action" then "scary". I know the Halls of Horrors books stand out as being some of my favourites. Slappy's World was hit or miss with the stories. So far not quite sure I am going to like this series.
