Thrilled with this book
We have a son who is all about building, designs, sketching weapons, etc. We were very disappointed with our library's lack of Da Vinci material. So thrilled we found this book. He loves it.

Highlights of a creative, inventive and engineering genius, brought to life through detailed 3D renderings.
I have always been fascinated by Leonardo da Vinci, his genius, his art, his mind for science, architecture and engineering that was centuries ahead of his time. A few years ago, I went to an exhibition in Rome where they had on display wooden full-size models created from his technical drawings. Quite an inspiring show, but I was still interested to learn more. When I saw this book I noted it not only had DaVinci's own technical drawings – interesting though they are – but carefully rendered technical 3D models that more clearly showed the clever mechanics involved, along with professional conjecture where Leonardo had left out crucial details. I am not en engineer, but I found it too fascinating to resist. It has a lovely in-depth view of some of his machines and inventions, sorted neatly into chapters: flying machines, war machines, hydraulic machines, work machines, theatrical machines, musical instruments, and others. It's not an exhaustive guide to all his inventive work, of course, but a nice selection of highlights.A lot of painstaking research and work must have gone into making these machines more alive than before, to explain their components and more intricate workings. Short of having recreated every machine in a working prototype, this is still a monumental feat.
