The Girl in the Shadows: My Life in a Cult

I have followed Katy's story nigh on obsessively since it broke, I worked in the area she was trapped in and have walked past three of her addresses at least once. She has done interviews and discussed what she went through but no interview has ever given the full story and it is a story that deserves to be told and heard. Katy is an AMAZING individual, what she went through is unfathomable yet she shines bright. A wonderful story from a courageous and wonderful woman. I particularly liked that she took us on her journey after her escape, the things we take for granted that she had to learn from scratch. I couldn't put the book down. I wish Katy everything good and all her heart's desire in life, she bloody deserves it and some.

I've just finished reading this book. I wanted to leave a review that would do it justice, but to be honest it's so poignant it has left me speechless.All I can say is, if I ever meet Katy in person I will give her the biggest hug ever. She deserves to live a long and very happy life.

The author was imprisoned from birth by a cult leader, a leader of no more than six or seven people. Her innocent style of writing makes this a most unusual biography. The cult leader follows the pattern of all those who enslave others for their own lazy, selfish, cruel, narcissistic aims. He followed only his own dream, to rule the world. Oh if only someone had reported seeing a child hiding behind net curtains yet never leaving the house or playing in the garden the cult leader could have been punished instead of leading a hugely satisfying life.

Katy. You are truly a beautiful soul. You touched me with every word you wrote in this book.I see this book as truly inspirational because of the terrible way this wonderful lady was forced to live and how she has now came out on top.Wow! I have learned a lot from you Katy.Thank you for sharing your story :)

I read this book and felt hurt for them all. AB was a monster who wanted total control over those in the cult. I was horrified to read how when they all got together to hate whoever's turn it aS to be beaten. I am so proud of Katy, and I feel so sorry for Josie. I thank her to getting Katy out, but she's so far gone it's heartbreaking. I wish all of them all the best for the future and if u read this Katy, keep moving forward with ur head held high.
