and the Great Moorish monuments in Cordoba & Sevilla
This SACD is absolutely the most elegant illustration of any musical, historical documentary I have ever seen. I am so grateful to all those masterful artists for this fascinating story about Granada and the ALHAMBRA.. Having visited this masterpiece of MOORISH Architecture multiple times , this unique creational, artistic story - along with RALPH COSHAM's audio book : "TALES OF THE ALHAMBRA" , are the ONLY substitutes for not actually being there in person. This SACD and Cosham's Audio Book both poignantly highlight the POMPOUS , ruinous abortions that CHRISTIAN Kings did to the Alhambra, and the Great Moorish monuments in Cordoba & Sevilla.

Multi cultural excellence
Excellently performed medieval music covering a 500 year period from Granada and Andalucia generally from the various strands of Islamic, Jewish and Castillian cultures . The emotional impact of the songs of exile and loss contrasting well with the celebratory song and dance music. Excellent text, photos and research. High quality production all round from Jordi Savall and his team of Catalan and multi national performers that reflect the cultural changes that occurred in waves throughout the period. A live recording.

This holds me under its spell.
A wonderful recording which I discovered when a track was played on BBC R3's Record Review. It offers a great listening experience, ranging from the muezzin-like chants at the opening through to ceremonial dances and plangent arias. It was my CD of the year and was happy to buy several copies as gifts for friends. Track no.19 is a real show stopper! An unusual but invaluable addition to my collection.

Good Album
A little like ‘Jerusalem and Istanbul’. But still excellent.

I always enjoy recordings by Jordi Savall and his various ensembles but ...
I always enjoy recordings by Jordi Savall and his various ensembles but I enjoyed this one even more as I was in the audience at the Palacio Carlos V in Granada's Alhambra for the concert that was recorded for this disc.
