Awesome saw!
This is truly an excellent saw for the price! Paul Sellers was right... If you don't know how to sharpen you can use it immediately after purchasing it just wipe off the factory applied protective cover to prevent it from rusting and it's working fine. However it is worth sharpening it's not that hard teeth are quite big one pass with the file on the gullet and the cutting will be even smoother and the finish will be nicer. Paul sellers has you tube videos how to sharpen cross/rip. The saw cuts amazingly as a crosscut with the default tooth arrangement. The saw blade is medium thick the saw does not bend the handle is very comfortable for me! The only minor downside is the pins instead of screws but at this price there's nothing to complain about... I've had them for over 2 years and every now and then I just need to hit the pins and the saw sits perfectly in the holder again. Just wipe with cloth+oil after each use and you get a lifetime tool. I bought a second one and sharpened it as RIP. At this price maybe it's even worth buying two as a spare:) I know what I'm saying because I've used more expensive saws - see in the photo that I have one Lie Nielsen and I think that we really don't lose much and it simply doesn't make sense to pay 5 times as much. 100% recommendation!

S&J panel saw (22in 10 ppi)
Overall a good looking, well made saw with the plate being made of a good spring steel and the handle is made of beech so is quite durable. The rivets in the handle will need tightening just tap them with a hammer and good to go! Amazing saw for the price, could be a lifetime saw if you look after it!

Nice but…
It’s a nice quality saw and does a reasonable job at cutting. If I’m honest it’s nice to have a more traditional style saw but I wouldn’t say it cuts any better than a cheap site saw from a local DIY store. I know this can be re sharpened (which is a good thing) but out the box i was expecting more. Again if looked after it could be a life time item. But I didn’t expect that i would have to sharpen it to the standard I was expecting out of the box.

Any shortcomings easily remedied; excellent value
I am in the USA and ordered two of these saws after shopping for them in the USA and finding that ordering from Amazon UK would cost far less than buying them here. Shipping was not expensive and I received them quite promptly; perhaps as promptly as had I ordered them from a retailer in my country. I am pleased with the saws. They cut well, although I had to clean whatever coating was on them to reduce friction. I personally find the handle a bit uncomfortable, but I believe relieving the edges will correct that for me. Other than the edges being a bit harsh for me the handle suits well. It is sized and angled well for me as I believe it would be for the majority of users. The saw is a bit short for me, and if I do not learn to shorten my stroke slightly I may order a longer version. This is not a fault, but if one is accustomed to a longer saw it might be a difficult adjustment and worth considering; I've dinged a workpiece a couple of times when I pulled the saw too far back and out of the kerf. I have saws that my father used at least eighty years ago and while this saw is not finished as finely as those saws it cuts as well and I believe it is an excellent value.

Quality at an affordable price
I bought one as a keen hobbyist in the shed. Then I bought another 5 years later to re-sharpen as a rip-cut, just for those few times when I needed to rip as it just makes things easier and quicker (something that makes a difference as you get older). If I had a need for another tooth profile, I'd buy a 3rd, but I don't. It's not often I wonder how something so good could be so affordable. But here we are. The handle is generic and perhaps a tad on the large side for me but I can't afford bespoke saws. I have shaped the handles to round over the parts that I grip and this made a difference for me. I just did it little and often - first round the edges slightly with a file and abrasive paper then used for a while, then a bit more etc. until I was happy. When I bought the second saw, this was a quick job as I just copied my other one.

Saw
Easy to cut straight with this saw

Excellent little saw made by S & J
Easy to use but the handles could be reshaped to make it more comfortable. Saw can be sharpened unlike many modern saws which are hardened and thus are “use til dull and throw away “ This saw will last a lifetime

This is a great traditional saw, although the handle is atrocious. I recommend looking up Paul Sellers' tutorial on how to reshape the handle as it is actually incredible how much of a difference a different handle shape makes. Overall great saw, but the handle is really uncomfortable.

I do hand tool woodworking making furniture and other smaller projects. I bought this saw to see what I could make of it - I am tired of buying new saw plates for my Japanese saws. I'd rather have saws I can keep and fix up. I figured the 10ppi skew back saw would make a good all round crosscut saw and let me get started learning how to cut on a push stroke. Out of the box my saw had a lot of friction and made super rough ragged cuts. I stripped a rubbery lacquer off the saw plate and narrowed the set by a lot. I also reshaped the tote. It took me a day of tuning and practicing, but by the time I was done, I was able to cut an eighth-inch slice of mahogany end grain freehand and the saw leaves a really nice finish that needs very little work to clean up. I plan to use it as my all-round crosscut workhorse saw. Regardless of what the company says, I wouldn't want to use this to rip anything more than a board foot at most. It isn't efficient for that. I'm rating 5 stars not for the saw's usability out of the box but because it's a reasonable price and with enough work you can make this a really refined tool. I particularly like being able to shape the tote to my hand.
