I had a total of 8 children to keep occupied (ages ranging from 3 to 11) and these flip book were the highlight of the afternoon. I bought 2 kits which gave me a total of 4 pre-printed books and 4 blank ones.One kit contains 2 pre-printed books (one butterfly and one metamorphosis) and 2 blank books. The pre-printed ones required basic coloring (for most of the duration of the activity) and some sequencing (arranging pictures in order) towards the end. I gave those to the younger kids. The older kids (with greater comprehension skills and better frustration tolerance) got the blank ones.This worked out beautifully and truly helped even out the "achievement gap" across the age groups. In the end, the little ones had something they had put together which impressed all of us when flipped and the older kids had fun thinking through what they were trying to make --and then making it.My 11-year old niece put together "Evolution of Dot" (a dot who becomes a kid playing with a ball who then becomes the ball who then becomes another kid playing on the playground or some such) which actually ended up looking so good she saved it for her next Show and Tell presentation.Doing the pre-printed part of the activity is effortless and impossible to mess up: even with scribbles and unsteady coloring, it still looks polished, and smart --and will elicit a very genuine "Wow!" from anybody when flipping through for the first time around.Drawing the blank books, on the other hand, is challenging because it demands more sophisticated applications of the child's executive skills: this exercise requires the child to stop, think, plan, draw and --when necessary-- re-evaluate and correct mistakes. Since this mostly calls for self-evaluation, it really is up to the individual child how great their "movie" turns out to be. Even on this level, the activity is difficult to botch completely since the very act of flipping through the book guarantees an unexpected illusion of "drawings in motion" while not focusing "the reader's" eye on any one drawing for too long.
