Just what I have been waiting for!
I am very impressed with the new Kindle Scribe.I haven't found anything that I don't like about it; and only a couple of things I would like improved.More on that laterFirst off, this version of a Kindle is much bigger than any of the others. This one is large iPad sized and at 433gm, is only slightly lighter.Black and white only of course, but as an electronic book, this works just fine. Although covers in black and white have a little less impact, than reading on a tablet with the Kindle app.Very easy to set up if there is already a kindle account, it just connects to wifi and minutes later, my whole library emerges .There is an option to sort into folders of course and here is one of the things I would improved . The folder covers are very plain and dull. I'd like the ability to add a picture or icon of some sort to the cover of the folder, which would also help in arranging. Plus they would look a little less boring. It is possible to side load ones own books to the Kindle Scribe, simply by using the Kindle email or usb connection.I use Calibre Software as it is also useful for converting my books into mobi format for the Kindle and also for adding covers.I have uploaded a few magazines from my Kindle account and they are good to read. BUT, the other item I would like improved is the quality of pictures.Picture quality in the magazines is very dark and messy. Some pictures are barely clear enough to identify. Brighness needs to be turned up to see them and then I find the reading too bright.I don't read many magazines so that is not a major issue to me but I can see that it could be to some. This does, however, also depend on the Magazine. I found e.g. 'National Geographic' to be very dark, whereas in 'Mac', the pictures were much lighter and clearer. The best about the Kindle Scribe and of course the only reason I , and many others, bought it ( I already have four Kindles - Yes I love devices) is the ability to Hand write in it.For that purpose I have installed several editable PDF's via Kindle email, in which I can record:A JournalA PlannerBook JournalAddress BookPassword Indexand a useful NotebookWriting in these works very well and the writing is clear. There is the ability to change thickness of the 'pen' to suit and the usual eraser , highlighter etcThe pen is very comfortable to hold. I chose the better pen. I don't know how that differs to the basic one. But it works well and the top of the pen is also an eraser. It is also magnetic and stays magnetised with the Kindle Scribe quite well.Writing is a piece of cake. Once you get used to smooth writing on a screen, it's a pleasant experience. The pen allows the writing to flow naturally and encourages good handwriting. There is no lag.I love the ability to immediately erase words even I can't read, and write them again legibly!I like that there is an option to show the cover of the book I am reading, when the kindle is asleep.Helps remind me which book I am actually on, as I flit from one to the other. The toggle option to set this is in: 'More-Settings-Device Options- Display Cover'When in 'Home' view there is a choice at the bottom of 'Home, Library , Notebooks, and More'The 'Notebooks' option will take the reader to an inbuilt Notebook.I found this handy for recording lists of books in the same series. Each new 'notebook' is displayed as a single sheet on the option page. Ready to choose to edit it.The 'More' option shows ' Reading List, Web Browser, Settings and the usual Legal'I have had limited success with the web browser. I do have a good Broadband to use, but no matter, this Web Browser usually says 'There was a Problem Loading this page'I will chat to an amazon tech to see why that is. I might be missing something. All in, this is an excellent addition to the Kindle family. It's one I will find very useful and in fact have been using every day, besides my usual reading at night. It is a little larger than I would have liked; but then this size is ideal for writing on really. Plenty of room and no squashing up handwriting.Comparing to a tablet, I can only say it really depends what you want it for.If you also want to watch films, play games and look at social media then obviously a tablet works, But as a dedicated reader/writer this works very well for me.I don't want 'notifications' popping up or to be distracted by games and chats. The two are totally different species and can live happily side by side to fulfil both preferences. There are also Kindle covers, but I don't like that they fold upwards like a notebook. I still prefer a cover to open like a book so I have a generic one. There are a lot to choose from.I love devices. This is one I will definitely be keeping and using regularly and really can't fault it.Highly Recommended
