There seems to be several versions of this product, sold under different brand names. I had purchased a different version previously but it would not turn on so was returned for a refund. I took a chance and purched this one as soon as I received my refund. Happily it was actually cheaper than the first one. For some reason has a different LED set up and power supply, but other than this it is identical. But anyway, this one works well. I have tried an IDE 3.5" and an IDE 2.5" so far and both immediately opened in File Explorer when the unit was turned on. I am using Windows 10 and it works fine. As it is USB 3.0 files transfer quickly. As always with IDE drives, trying to align the connector without bending the pins, when you cannot see what you are doing, is always a challenge. But just take your time and once lined up, slots in very positively.

I don't believe this is a bad product however the description is not correct. This device is not guaranteed to work with Windows 10 (It wouldn't work for me and then a visit to the manufacturers website showed no Win 10 support, also plenty of articles online about this). Also doesn't work with all HDD's - I have WD's, known to not work. A clearer more accurate description and I would not have purchased. If you have Win 7 you can be confident of compatibility (but still not all drives).

I received a defective product, i.e. "scrap". Only the casing is neatly made. All the rest is absolute misery. If this device worked for someone, it will soon stop working.

Was able to put my old hard drive in here but unfortunately the hard drive must be kaput, because although this converter attempted to do the job I was never able to see my files again :(

Death trap!! Cover came off the power supply as soon as I opened the box. Got the StarTech unidocku33 instead. 100% better quality well worth the extra money

A bit plasticy but does the job. All my old hdd are now accessible:-)

IDE drives are slightly different in their positioning of the sockets and so adjustment is required in order to fit them properly.Once I’d used it on several drives, I found that I’d gained the knack of slotting them right into place.I have a server go wrong and had to remove 4x hard drives, all the older IDE type. This unit enabled me to save GIGABYTES of lost data so, five stars. Well build and very reliable unit.
