A great intermediate book
This is a useful book for the intermediate violinist. The songs are catchy and encourage one to further one's technique.

Much more tuneful and interesting than many study books!
I have been learning the violin for a couple of years now and this is certainly the best study book that I have worked through with my teacher. Each study typically has two or more techniques which can be the focus of improvement making it instantly more interesting to the student than an entire page looking at one aspect - for example a study may contain both harmonics and a variety of bowing. Also each of the studies is much more tuneful than many study books I have encountered and as such it can be treated similar to the development of a piece allowing the student to apply principles such as phrasing, expression and performance technique rather than it being simply a drill which is tedious. The book only contains 14 studies which may seem a small number compared to some more traditional books, however this is the first study book I have owned (including all the ones I used when learning Flute at School) where I have worked on every study in the book.

Great. Will keep me going for a while
Great. Will keep me going for a while. Covers a lot: double stops, harmonics, string crossing and position change (5th position in the piece I am learning just now). Likes to change keys mid piece. Will keep you on your toes.

Tuneful Pieces!
Was asked to buy this for my violin lessons; it has excellent pieces in it for Grade 3 to 4 transition. Some of them are not as useful as others, but all sound very nice

... a young violinist - who would have understood it better than me
Appeared to be a very instructional book but was a present for a young violinist - who would have understood it better than me, as I never got more than a squeak out of a violin, despite some practice.
