My 11-year-old son is an experienced Lego builder, and he really enjoyed putting this robot together. It took him about a total of 6 hours over the course of 2 days to get it all put together. The pieces were in bags, like Lego, but the bags were not labeled with any numbers, so he just opened them all right away since he didn't know which bag to start with. The instructions did not contain any actual words, just pictures of the way the pieces fit together, similar to Lego. It would have been helpful if the pieces in the instructions were colored the same color as in real life, but he figured it out. Some pieces were a challenge to put together, but he and I eventually got it. This was not a defect; it's just a challenging set. Once he got the robot put together, he got the battery-operated remote control (2 AAA batteries not included) working to move the robot right away, but getting the app working took a little more time. The app was originally in another language (Chinese?), so we had to figure out how to change the language, and a few other things. I really didn't think we would get the app to control the robot, but we did! The robot runs better on a hard surface than on carpet, which is to be expected. The robot can move forward, backward, and it can also turn 360 degrees while moving. It does need to be charged. I estimate my son played with it for about 20 minutes before it needed to be charged, which is similar to other remote control toys we have had. We have never had a Lego Technic set because of the price, but I am guessing this would be a similar product for a cheaper price. Because we received this product for free in exchange for an honest review, I really did not have high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. In fact, my son found other similar products shown on the app, and he immediately went to Amazon to try to find them and add them to his Christmas list. We were surprised that we couldn't find them, so I hope the manufacturer makes them more readily available!

We gave it to the grandson for Christmas. His dad was sure it would be good even though the grandson is six. The kid was excited by the picture on the box and eager to make a robot. He and dad went to work on it. The kid lost interest in about 30 minutes. Dad was caught. It took him two three hour sessions to get a workable robot. Suddenly the grandson was back and eager to put it through its paces. It was responsive to the controls and kept them occupied for about an hour. Dad is not sure he wants to make another one.

I got this one because I was looking a robot-style model that works with the Kaiyu app. It was a fun build, but the left+right sides, with the gears that mesh with the treads, didn't build straight. When pulled toward each other later in assembly also pulls against the axles so the motor can't drive them.

As soon as she saw this she grabbed it and disappeared into her room and has been working on it for hours. I can't wait to see what she will do with this. I haven't heard any frustrated expletives and she seems really excited when I checked on her. This is a SUPER win. So, much better than sitting there on video games. Definitely a good purchase. Would make a great gift for a special child.

I got this for my 8-year-old, but it just has so many little pieces and complicated steps that it really required grownup help. Lots of pieces, so you have to be careful not to lose any. You can customize your builds - you're not limited to what's shown in directions. But again, definitely requires adult assistance. Surprisingly, especially at this price range, it does have an app to download and can be controlled via Bluetooth. Aside from the effort required to assemble it, the end result was worth it, and it makes a great gift.
