Alessi Kettle 9091
A great looking sturdy hob kettle with classic design. Delicate in looks but don't be fooled as materials used are brass/copper/steel. A kettle such as this is on the heavy side when full but then which kettle isn't. Who thought you couldn't fall for a kettle? And looked after, a great future heirloom. Recommended !!Alessi Officina Richard Sapper Melodic Kettle 9091Four Years On - can it really be that long?Sturdy it definitely is having survived boiling dry on numerous occasions (lesser kettles would by now have become a molten lump of metal) due to the reeds furing up - still not convinced that whistle is solid cast brass - and impossible to replace them with the two spare. So after four years of daily use and despite slight discoloration around base of kettle due to above my Alessi still looks good in the kitchen!Continue to recommend!

Nice piece of kit, well-made body and handle. At first I thought the handle was made of plastic but after closer inspection I noticed it is metal with a plastic cover to keep it cool. Does what it is supposed to do, hold water while it is being boiled. Has a good balance when held, and the whistle mechanism which is hinged also seems well made. The whistle doesn't split your ear drums, but it's not so pleasant that you want to listen to it until the kettle boils dry. Be careful when pouring as its hard to see the water flowing out because the whistle obscures your view and you can spill hot water everywhere if you pour too fast, you learn to overcome this quickly. It is expensive for a kettle so I am taking one star off because of this, but it should last a long time so in the end it might save money, well it better for this much money.

It has had a designers touch (ie, looks great, functions poor)
Did you fall for the "Italian Design Houses" nonsense video from Alessi like I did?Oh dear, but all is not lost. I am here to save you.Think about what they are saying. Italian Design Houses. Sure, it's not got any electrical circuits, but those aren't the only things the Italians generally can't get right (my Fiat 500 does some really weird things). Let's face they're best at making things pretty and if they also happen to work well that is a happy coincidence. Here's why this kettle can only be considered as good as "1/5 - Has had a designers touch"1. That handle is nasty cheap plastic. It isn't solid either, it is two vertical ribs along the length. It cuts into you when the kettle is full.2. That handle is nasty cheap plastic. It melts when the hob top gets busy with other pans. Not even kidding, the plastic is so low down that heat overspill will melt it.3. You cannot see inside this kettle, there is no lid, it is spout filled. It's made of stainless steel. This means it weighs quite a lot and at the same time it holds only 2kg of water. If it is not completely full you have no realistic idea of how much is in there. A few cups of water do not appreciably alter the weight of the kettle and the weight is the only clue you have as to how much is in there.4. There is no filter/strainer. You like crunchy bits right?5. Right, about that lovely whistle. The steam escaping touches the whistles and condenses. Over the boil this condensation build up gets quicker as does new steam production. The result is a nice period where the kettle is trying to make a noise but only managing to make a spitting sound and it splatters boiling water all over the place like a happy child showing you how much he loves ice cream.I figure the whistle spout, being higher up, does not get as hot as quickly as the water, thus the condensing, perhaps a better conductor leading up from the base to surround the spout would get more heat up there more quickly to avoid the condensing part. Leave it long enough and the spout gets hot enough to not condense and spit. Leave it even longer and both of the notes will sound.I have to assume all the videos I have seen of this kettle are pre-boiled and not from cold as that is the only way I can make the whistle sound off properly, because from cold it sounds ridiculous spluttering all over the place.Yeah, you do get a spare set of tone reeds because they admit they will corrode, but since my handle will likely have melted off before the first set corrode I'm going to mount my spare ones on my vacuum cleaner filter outlet instead... it should sound lovely.Did I mention the handle melts? Mine is 6 months old now and I think it's probably got another six months of plastic left. I'll pot rivet half a steering wheel to it when it finally goes.If your missus is anything like mine, none of these words will mean anything to her and she'll still make you buy the damm thing.

Gorgeous looking kettle, but not for hard water areas
This kettle would be great if you live in a soft water area. It does look sensational, and the "tune" is fun. However one of the two notes of the tune keeps furring up. It is really difficult to replace these. With only one note, it is not so pleasant when telling you to turn off the heat!I don't agree with the other reviewer who said the steam catches you when you use the clip that lifts the spout; that does not happen with me. Yes, it is a bit heavier than others but I have no difficulty lifting it even though my wrists are weak; it is well made, apart from the constant furring up. If they had thought that out, or made it easier to replace or clean the "notes", there would be no problem.

AFFARE FATTO!
Grazie amazon! Superlativi!

A sound choice!
The Alessi 9091 is truly a breakthrough design from the 80's that continues to delight all who own one. Sapper brilliantly avoided the traditional shrill sounding whistle, and introduced a unique melodic solution that makes you smile. In addition to the captivating gold plated pipes, the clear form, excellent craftsmanship and overall witty charm celebrate the act of boiling water. You can't go wrong with this sound choice.

Kessel
Bleibt also nur Edelstahl.

Really Bamboozled me. Not worth five dollars
👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿 Had one of these before. It always worked. The whistle in that one was great. This one, for about $250, the whistle doesn’t work, it just sputters. And the capacity is so small (especially to the first one I had) that it really only makes 8-10 Oz of hot water at a time. This product sucks.
