Fantastic Product
I first used this product about 15 years ago to finish thresholds between rooms in my house. Even with the introduction of two dogs and three children it has not discoloured, chipped or worn through. This time I used it to refinish an oak bar in my local where years of beer spillage had lifted the varnish. Five coats on a 3 yard by 2 foot bar used only half a litre. It covers very well and cures, ready for the next coat, in less than twenty minutes. Left it to cure for a week then smoothed it with 400 grit stearate paper before burnishing with T cut to a glass finish in about an hour. The bar has been in constant use for some time now and despite heavy use shows no sign of deterioration. Loads of compliments about the quality of the finish as well. You can brush it on, roll it or wipe it and still get an excellent result. You will need to buy the correct thiners to clean equipment or throw them away at the end.Only point to watch is the curing time. This is all in the instructions but you basically have to complete the application within about 16 hours or wait 3 or 4 days before continuing. The surface will ripple if you apply coats once the main cure has started. This is an excellent product which can be used for many projects and really does do what it says on the tin. Whilst it is pricey it is a once only application which knocks polyurethane finishes into a cocked hat.

I can't recommend an alternative but this is reasonably priced and it's ...
It thins Rustins Plastic Coating adequately. That's all I can say. I can't recommend an alternative but this is reasonably priced and it's always a good idea to not mix and match products, especially as Rustins products are generally compatible with each other.

Durable, beautiful, awesome stuff
In a past life as a furniture restorer/dealer, this became my go-to coating when I wanted a super hard-wearing but attractive finish. For me, a french polish is the perfect coating, and this is as close as you can get to a similar finish with the added benefit that it's more or less indestructable! For trade, it's not cheap - but I'd only use this on pieces that really deserve it (but not antiques - please, stick with French polish.). For modern furniture, you can achieve many different finishes, from a matte to a high gloss. The burnishing cream works well for a high gloss, but really you could use t-cut if you want to save some £s.To achieve a really fine finish, it's all about brushwork. Use a good quality lacquer brush, and thin by 1/4 (using Rustins thinners).Leave for at least 24hours (48 preferably) before burnishing.Tip - works really nicely on mid-century modern teak furniture. Use like a sealer, a couple of coats. Cut back well with 000 wire wool and give a liberal coating with a clear wax. Beautiful!

Using Rustins for ceramic restoration
Rustins plastic coating thinner is invaluable for cleaning up after using Rustins plastic coatings, in an airbrush, for covering painted surfaces on ceramic restoration. It is the only product which prevents the airbrush clogging up. An excellent product and thank you for prompt response via Amazon.

Rustin plastic coating
I've used this Briliant product for 2 years now for finishing fishing rods. It as a high subtle gloss finish. That's just perfect. It can also be used coloured for a multitude of applications with Marabu solvent based glass paint or chestnut spirit wood stain. Highly recommended.

REVIEW: Rustins PCTH250 250ml Plastic Coating Thinners
For what it is specifically made for (i.e. "Plastic Coating Thinners") I have no doubt that it is acceptable. For me and I'd easily assume, others, if you're looking for a classic "laquer thinners" this is not the right product for you. With these "thinners" products, "application" is critical. The "Carplan" brand of laquer thinners is very different to Rustins, and, manages to remove pretty much most oily residue from surfaces, if one is needing to prepare surfaces for painting / preparation / oily residue removal. Rustins product does not achieve this level / extent of non-oily residue. Thus, choose accordingly for your needs. Both will serve as paint brush cleaners.

Very Expensive.
This product is essential for completing plastic coating application and brush cleaning. The plastic coating components are expensive enough!I Thought I was getting a 5litre can for £13+.1/2-litre for £13 is very expensive! No other solvents would clean brushes, so a new brush at £6:99 each was required for each coat until the thinners arrived.Total cost for approximately 1 square metre of worktop in excess of £60!
