Beautiful to look at ...very very hard.. expect to do lots of sanding.. recommend tung oil to finish apply over a couple of weeks

Beautiful grain. Solid density. Excellent for knife scales. Depending on the thickness needed, one can slice each into up to 3 scales, making this a very economical choice for a very attractive product.

10+ % is cracked - not usable. Returned.

I got 5 of them because I saw some other reviews said they got great pieces and others getting pretty lame ones. 3 of the ones I got were ok. Not straight grain or boring but not really full of figure. Compared to prices I have seen on other websites and in person at knife shows these are still a bargain at the $23 I payed for them. 2 of the blocks however are out of this world stunning burl. Everything you want in great Desert Ironwood Burl. High contrast and stunning figure. Those 2 pieces would be 3X to 4X the price from someone else. I wasn’t expecting them to look this good. Overall I am giving it 5 stars just because even though some weren’t as high of contrast or that figured compared to how they are described, for $23 you are still getting what you’re paying for, and you just might get something worth far more than what you pay.
