Does this project from top and sides or just the top

Just the top, however, it projects nicely. And you can position it any way you want as the egg just sits on top the base! The farther you have it from the ceiling with nothing in the way (like lamps or dressers) the better. I recommend setting it up in the corner of the room. I love mine! I've purchased 2 so far!
