"a girly little roundhouse..."
THE DIG is a short story featuring Pike and Jennifer and is set in the weeks leading up to Jennifer's attempt at joining the Taskforce.I've read the Taskforce series since it began with ONE ROUGH MAN and I'd suggest that if you are a fan of Pike Logan then you will enjoy this story as well. The premise of the story is pretty standard fare for author Brad Taylor - Pike and Jennifer have some conflict over his being super-macho-man, Pike and Jennifer get caught unexpectedly in a real jackpot of a situation, Pike and Jennifer resolve the jackpot using the traits that had caused their earlier conflict ...In this case the jackpot develops when Pike and Jennifer go on an archaeological dig only to stumble into a top secret government project, a search for a mysterious artifact, and two opposing factions with big guns and hidden agendas.Don't worry, Pike's predictable in that he will always do the right thing. Even if it's dangerous. Especially if it's dangerous. Because if there's one thing he can't stand, it's for the good guys to stand quietly on the sidelines and let the bad guys exert their will and influence on society. In the past Taylor's critics have called the dialogue in his books "cheeky" along with other equally unimpressive adjectives (especially for his penchant to have Pike use sappy movie quotes) - and he's been criticized for having too simplistic a worldview and for using a writing style that's equally simplistic - but you know, I really don't think Taylor cares a whit about any of that. And why should he? He knows and understands his audience. Taylor is writing for readers who enjoy it when the good guys are relentless in their belief that bad guys should be beat as often as possible as a matter of principle. And if that's not what you enjoy reading, then take a pass. But if you think it's kind of cool when one of the bad guys takes his best punch at the hero, and the hero responds by calling it "a girly little roundhouse" (as Pike does in THE DIG) ... then you absolutely should be reading this and everything else written by Brad Taylor.

The Dig - first time using both Kindle and Audible together.
The Dig - this was my first time to use both Kindle and audible together and I really enjoyed how they both interact. Fun to be able to read or listen depending on the situation. The Dig was necessary to read/listen to in order to fill in some blanks prior to reading, โAll Necessary Force.โEnjoyed the story line, especially Pike and Jenniferโs chemistry.

The kind of heroes the world really needs.
I became a fan of Brad Taylor's books after I had read Vince Flynn and Brad Thor work. I really got into Taylor's characters and the plausible plots of terrorist groups against our country. I have read all of his books and was hoping to read the novellas he had written. Only one is in print but five are on dvd. So I got them all and have already listened to them the very first week I recieved them. Highly entertaining and action packed. I recommend all Brad Taylor's books for fans of thrillers.

After saving the day, Jennifer will get her chance!
Jennifer is the reason Pike is living again. After the tragic death of his family, he was in a self imposed hell and Jennifer has somehow brought him out of that. He helped her in book 1 and now they have started up a small archaeological company and are trying to get sanctioned to be used as a cover company for the Task Force. Pike is also trying to get Jennifer onto the Task Force (sort of), he wants her to go through selection but it is a no go for many reasons. During the "wait and see" process, they get a legitimate gig to dig for "old * " where they stumble on some nefarious activity.

EXCITING!
From cover to cover 'The Dig' is a super-charged, action packed story of Pike Logan developing Jennifer into a potential team member. Convincing Jennifer to start up the company forms the back drop of the story. Their relationship develops with more rough road on an almost daily basis that leaves you wondering, if or when it might become a personal relationship. Pike, a man who has no real life other than death and destruction, appears to be developing into a man who has a weakness in being protective of Jennifer. This creates a problem with her own ego that makes her fight everything that Pike stands for and differs from her previous life. The answers will only become apparent in later stories not answered in 'The Dig.'

The dig
Interesting start of how Jennifer got into the taskforce. Lot of action for a little novel , but enough information to get you to read regular stories by Mr Taylor about this group.

A brief pause till the next Pike
This little stop off after One Rough Man novel was very appealing and a nice little interlude to let us know where Pike and Jennifer were up to, great read and clever idea to keep up with Pike!

If you like Vince Flynn novels you will find Brad Taylor very similar.
This author uses a different method of "filling in the blanks" and I like it. He writes a series of short stories to fill in details of the characters for the reader between novels. His writing is good at first and becomes more Vince Flynn like as he develops as an author...I thought his last book was terrific.

Good short story that's not really that short!
I've read all the books in this series and then started back on the Kindle-available short stories. The good part to this is more of a fix of one of my favorite authors; the downside is reading content out of order. But the latter isn't a big deal, as it adds backstory and some character development. The story revolves around strange happenings in the desert near Roswell, which of course implies UFOs and conspiracy theories. The entire story took about an hour to read, and was thoroughly enjoyable. The writing style is consistent and engaging, and any fan of the books will enjoy the story. Recommended.
