I loved this book!
Thriving by Kim KingIf you are a person who knows someone with cancer this book is for you. If you are a person who is a caregiver for a person with cancer this book is for you. If you are a person who is dealing with cancer yourself this book is definitely for you! I wish this book had been written several ago when I was dealing with dear friends with cancer. It had clues for what I could have said to encourage them, and what I should not say. It would have helped me understand what they needed, and how important a pillow is the recovery process.Kim has written a book that gives you the answers. She has had lung cancer and shares with the reader her experiences, the ups, and the downs. Mostly this book is about finding the strength to fight cancer yourself, also using your faith, and asking others for the help you need. She shares stories about her doctor visits, triage visits to the hospital, scans and how to prepare for them. She shares her fears and her triumphs. She shares stories of the amazingly caring people she met along the way. She pays tribute to her doctors and the medical team at Beebe for caring for her with gentleness, patience, and great care.Kim uses humor to tell her stories and you really do find yourself smiling, and actually laughing out loud, in parts. The book is written with poems and sketches that enrich her story. Believe it or not, this book is a light-hearted read, a story full of hope and blessings, joy and laughter, and yes, some snarky comments as well. Kim is a Rock Star, and she is Thriving! It is also interesting to know that all the proceeds from the sale of her book are going to Cancer Research!

Sharing personal experience
This is an enlightening book that allows you to journey with a cancer victim from the first moments of pre-diagnosis to the victory of beating the odds of a highly fatal cancer. It is an easy read not because it has little to say, but because it has so much to say and each chapter is filled with Kim’s personal experiences and struggles during her cancer battle. It is uplifting for one facing a similar experience or even if one has never faced living with cancer. The striking theme throughout the book is Kim’s positive attitude, her spirituality, her love of friends and family, and medical team for which she is grateful for support through her entire experience. She is someone I’ve known since childhood and throughout schooling and can attest to her sincerity in sharing her experience to help others facing these challenges. If you have never heard of Kim King, you will certainly know her well after reading this heartfelt book!DGB

Raw Courage,Humor and Hope. Uplifting and Inspirational!
Opening this wise and simplistic book is akin to walking every day from the author's initial, numbing terror of hearing the "C" diagnosis through the clinical, deeply personal and often exhausting experience of lung cancer. But the true essecne of this wonderful read is applicable to anyone facing a formidable personal challenge. This is a roadmap to navigate how to make the proverbial "lemonade" from any ominous and fearful challenge in your life.Having worked in mental health for 30 years as a therapist and life coach,I would highly recommend this profile in courage. It is drawn from the author's unshakable belief that , although you can't control what life throws at you, each of us has the power to CHOOSE how we will walk that path.Ms. King chose positivity, humor and gratitude. She is indeed a "rock star" in teaching us how to face daunting life obstacles as an opportunity for personal growth and insight.

A road map to understanding.
This book puts the reader inside the mind of a person fighting lung cancer. The book is divided into short essays dealing with both medical, emotional, and practical aspects of cancer. The author highlights strategies used by her to live with and fight cancer. She also explains how her care giver was affected and suggests how friends can best respond to a cancer acquaintance. Poems and drawings pertinent to the essays illustrate and enhance the feelings and ideas. I learned so much from this book and found it hard to put down. I highly recommend it to anyone fighting the disease as well as to the care givers and friends.

What a relief it is...
The thought of cancer usually brings with it thoughts of dread and depression. This book is different. This book engenders hope and expectations of renewed health. It is an easy read, set up in an abc format, that is the alphabet letters are used to discuss various topics of concern to the author. It moves the book along quite nicely. It is a suitable book for those with cancer because it encourages positivity and the will to survive not just physically but joyfully as well. It is also suitable for those in a supportive role because it gives a person ideas of what to say, as well as what not to say, to a person with cancer.

Jammed packed with emotions!
Most of us have been touched by cancer in our lives and if you don't like to feel the feelings associated with this illness, then don't read this book! It took me some time to read this because I needed to process the profound emotional content and my reactions. It was that moving! In the end, you see how cancer can transform lives in a positive way and how important it is in life to find the good as Kim did.
