Would the same electronics work for a bass? I've got a pair of bass pickups but I was thinking of using this for the internals

Yes, these are fine for basses. The pots are solid shaft, so they would be appropriate for either P-Bass or Jazz Bass knobs, if you intend to use those. All the component values should be just what you need, both the P-Bass and Jazz Bass would use these pots. If your pickups are active though, then these are not what you need. But for passive pickups you should be good!

Which type of control knobs would i need for this set please?

Hi, these pots are 1/4" diameter, they're designed for knobs that have a 1/4" bore, and a setscrew to hold them on. Any of the vintage-style Tele, P-Bass, Jazz Bass/Jaguar/Mustang knobs that Fender uses on their American guitars with solid shafts (Fender part numbers - search with and without hyphens): 009-4040-049 (Pure Vintage '52 Tele); 009-4057-049 (Pure Vintage '58 Tele); 009-5799-049 (Pure Vintage '60s Tele); 099-1366-000 (Knob, Barrel, Chrome); 099-2056-000 (Knob, Dome, Chrome); 001-9455-049 (Pure Vintage Jag/Mustang)

Would this be an upgrade for my mid 90's MIM tele?

Yes. This kit has a better switch and jack than came in your Tele, and possibly better pots. Your guitar likely came with CTS pots as included in this kit, but ours will have been ordered with tighter tolerances. Plus everything will be new and clean, so you might see some benefit there. You can expect some corrosion on the metal parts inside your components, given their 25 year age.

There's a possibility - though we doubt it - that your guitar came with metric-threaded components (in which case our kit will be even more of an upgrade). Likely not, but you should be prepared just in case to slightly enlarge the pot and jack holes to 3/8" if necessary.
