Atlas World Music AW-L10 Inca Ocarina - Natural

This is a fairly large ocarina, about 8cm (or for oldies like me, about 3inches) and very nicely decorated. As I expected, what look like eyes on the picture, are so that one can thread a suitable cord through, which is a good idea to do to avoid dropping it accidentally.There were no instructions in with mine and there seem to be very few, if any, beginners tutor books for this, so unless one has someone who can play 8 hole ocarina's and can teach this, you may be buying something that could just be a nice looking decorative talking point for the home, or for a collection of Peruvian artifacts. It may be possible to work out the fingering, which I am trying to do, but I am finding it difficult to get more than a few notes of the scale out of it at time of writing. (That is, assuming that suitable fingering will work in the first place).For a beginner, including for there to be suitable tutor books, it would be best to start off with a four hole ocarina, or a six hole one, but keep the bottom holes covered for the time being until one has become proficient in using the four holes. The Ocarina Workshop has tutor and music books and I would recommend buying from them. An example of their books, this one including CD's to listen to examples is  Play your Ocarina Complete Guide CD Edition : Book 1, 2, 3 & 4 , although one can buy the separate books, including without the CD's if desired. They also sell a good selection of plastic ocarina's, which are used in schools a fair bit, so it seems and an example of these are  Plastic OCARINA, Red 4-hole  or if you want to go up market they also sell hand made pottery ocarinas like Songstone Celtic Triscele Ocarina . While there is a full selection of the plastic ocarinas and books on sale here, it may be best to look on their website at [...] for the full range of what they have available and then look on Amazon to see if the items can be ordered here, unless you order direct from them, if the items are not available here on Amazon. I think for purchasing quantities for use in schools, it may be best to see what deals they have directly from them. Ocarina Worshop have some videos on YouTube, for instance as at [...].Although the emphasis with the materials seem to be geared up towards children, but ocarinas are by no means just for children. Even oldies like me can have a lot of enjoyment with them.

bought for my very musical daughter, with the teaching book (still awiting delivery but not bought from Hobgobbins). The ocarina arrived well before due day and the package was perfect for the size of the OcarinaThe product appears well made and looks like the picture on the page, smaller than I thought, perhaps the picture should had the measuremnents next to it, so you can see its size.Would I buy again from the site? yeswould I recommend the product? .. well my Daughter is happy

I bought this ocarina to replace one exactly like it that I dropped and broke. It's just the same!I only hope I don't break this one.

This Ocarina is so cute and has a permanent spot on my coffee table where I can show it off. It's also quite fun to play, despite being limited. But so far I can only play the theme tune to eastenders and inspector gadget! I think it only spans one octave and I can't find sharps or flats, which is limiting its scope. Although to be fair I haven't looked on any ocarina playing websites yet so maybe there's a whole world I'm yet to discover!

I am an ocarina enthusiast and serious player of the instrument. If you want some advise, stay well away from these. These are novelty items and not musical instruments, they are cheaply made, not tuned and have a very weak sound. If you are looking for an ocarina to play, a 10 or 11 hole transverse is the best please to start.I bought one in the knowledge of this as they do have aesthetic value and are interesting display items. But are they a musical instrument? Not at all.
