Great natural product good for health
Green clay was first quarried in southern France, where producers had a global monopoly until identical deposits were discovered in North America and in China. The green colour is a combination of ferrous oxides and decomposed kelp and other algae. Other ingredients identified include calcium, magnesium, potassium, manganese, dolomite, phosphorus, zinc, aluminium (yes, and it has health benefits!), silicon, copper, selenium, cobalt and a rare mineral called ‘montmorillonite’. Whereas green clay has been used for decades as a cosmetic treatment, especially on the face, its application for internal use by natural health practitioners is less well known. The way you take it is: sprinkle a level teaspoonful in a glass of water, stir it in and leave it around 8 hours to sit (overnight, for example), before drinking it half an hour before food. The clay absorbs free toxins in the gut, binds with them and passes them out of the body in regular bowel movements. It attracts molecules and pathogenic organisms like a magnet by a process called ‘adsorbency’. By this method the clay eradicates fungi like candida, all kinds of bacteria, parasites, viruses, chemical residues – especially heavy metals - and other toxic materials. It’s commonly claimed that green clay should never be mixed using a metal spoon, or stored in a metal container. Wooden, ceramic or glass spoons and containers should be used. The belief that the clay loses its adsorbent qualities through prolonged contact with metal has some scientific basis, because it has been found to be highly effective in removing heavy metals in non-organic environments. However, if you’re just using a metal teaspoon to spoon the clay into a glass and stir it for a few seconds, that should be fine. There is also a counter-indication for people on prescription medicines like anti-hypertension drugs; because of the clay’s adsorbency its presence in the gut may interfere with the body’s abilities to absorb these medicines as intended. Best consult your doctor or medical herbalist about this.

First Class Clay.
The clay comes packed in a strong, lined sack that keeps it dry. It is easy to open without spilling the clay everywhere. The clay itself is finely ground, a good clean colour and smells fresh. It disperses readily in warm water (add clay to water, not water to clay for best results) and holds a little while in suspension. Used as clay water to drink and to cleanse the body, it is excellent. I bought this to use as hot poultices against bronchitis and it is very efficacious. I have also mixed the clay to a paste with a drop of water for use as a 'plaster' over an open burn wound and found it helped promote clean healing whilst reducing the inflammation and discomfort. I thoroughly recommend it.

Holy grail product for my oily, breakout prone skin.
I have endured breakouts for the last two decades and tried a plethora of treatments with varying levels of success. A few months ago I started to breakout more than usual with hormonal spots along my chin and checks. It was like a relay, I would wake up in the morning to find 2 or 3 spots had landed on my face overnight and then as they healed they would be replaced by another 2 or 3 that would just appear. I have tried the Aztec clay mask in the past, which initially cleared my skin but then I would be plagued by blackheads along my jawline and cheeks. I also did not like the pulsating action or having to mix it with ACV to get a smooth consistency. I found wearing the mask painful when it started to pulsate which I would have been willing to endure had it left me with clear skin but it didn't. The ACV was also too harsh for my skin which is why I think I started getting blackheads. By pure accident I came across this green clay powder and desperate as I was I gave it a try as I got a bargain Amazon warehouse deal. A kg of this powder will last a long time as you only need a generous spoonful per mask. I have decanted it into one of my husband's empty protein powder tubs to keep it airtight. The first time I used this mask it was ok but nothing miraculous. It didn't break me out so that was a bonus. I did however experience some 'purging' over the next few weeks of using it twice a week which started to put me off. I did however notice that the mask would sort of pull the gunk out of my pores and sort of leave it in the pores under my eyes and on my nose and I could only get rid of this by exfoliating. I used a Konjac sponge but I was wary of doing this as prolonged use of a Konjac sponge leaves me with the dreaded blackheads. I experimented with using The Ordinary's AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution so that I could exfoliate chemically rather than manually. It has worked a treat. My current routine: - Wash and dry face. I use a liquid African Black soap. - Apply the Peeling Solution to dry, cleansed skin. - Rinse face after 10 minutes and pat dry. - Apply the green clay mask. I mix 1 generous spoonful of the clay powder (I use a dry plastic spoon as you are advised not to use metal with this powder). I then add a small squirt of pure aloe vera gel and drops of rosewater until the consistency of the mask resembles a thick mousse. The instructions say to leave it standing for 30 minutes prior to use which I did initially but did not find this very practical so I mix it while I have the Peeling Solution on. I have not found any difference in the texture or effectiveness by only leaving it to stand for about 10 minutes. I also use the cheap rosewater from my local Asda's Asian food aisle. You get a bottle for under a £. Rosewater can be very expensive in my opinion so I thought I would try the cheap bottles first and they work for me. It also makes the mask smell lovely. I apply in a thick layer so that none of my skin is visible. - I leave the mask on for between 30 to 45 minutes. I used to leave it on for 20 minutes but found the longer I leave it on the better it cleans my pores and hence no breakouts due to gunk been sucked up to just below the surface of my skin, only to erupt in a spot 12 hours later. I also feel that using the Peeling Solution first provides a clean base for the mask to really get to work on, with no need to exfoliate afterwards. I have oily skin so leaving it on for this amount of time may not be suitable for those with sensitive skin. I apply this mask every 3 to 4 days so it works out to twice a week. I even mark it on my calendar as I got a bit complacent when the spots disappeared and didn't come back and went a week without applying the mask. I paid for my tardiness with a major breakout and don't go more than 4 days without doing this facial. I highly recommend this clay and find it works best for me when I combine it with the Peeling Solution. On the now odd occasion when I spot a spot threatening to surface I use The Ordinary's Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%. I apply a generous amount to the offending area, morning and night and it gets rid of it without erupting. I use a moisturiser with an SPF as the Peeling Solution can make your skin sensitive to the sun. I hope this review helps someone as I know the frustration of constant breakouts. The price of this powder and the Peeling Solution also will not break the bank and it is the most effective solution I have found to date for keeping my skin clear. I would not be without this clay powder.

Best clay and I've tried the lot!
I've tried every clay the pink Australian all the premade masks the whole loreal brand and other powdered clays. This is the best! It actually purges your skin so for the first week everything will come to the surface but the clay helps healing time. My skin has never been this clear and it's so cheap for so much! Save yourself time and money and just get this

Kaolin in the ingredients
It contains kaolin in addition to illite and montmorillonite. This wasn't mentioned in the ingredients on the website thought it is clearly stated on the box I received

Deep cleansing!
I use this clay for washing my hair, just mix it with drop of water and cider vinegar in the palm of hand, leave on for about a minute. Deep cleanses the hair and scalp, removes excess oil from the scalp and leaves the hair non greasy for days. Natural shampoo without nasties. Could use for face masks, as well.

Great product. It arrived earlier than expected. I've been suffering from cystic acne and I use it as a mask twice a week. I've noticed a significant reduction in inflammation and cyst formation. Thank you!
