THE BRAND GAP is the first book to present a unified theory of brand-building. Whereas most books on branding are weighted toward either a strategic or creative approach, this book shows how both ways of thinking can unite to produce a โcharismatic brandโโa brand that customers feel is essential to their lives. In an entertaining two-hour read youโll learn: โข the new definition of brand โข the five essential disciplines of brand-building โข how branding is changing the dynamics of competition โข the three most powerful questions to ask about any brand โข why collaboration is the key to brand-building โข how design determines a customerโs experience โข how to test brand concepts quickly and cheaply โข the importance of managing brands from the inside โข 220-word brand glossary From the back cover: Not since McLuhanโs THE MEDIUM IS THE MESSAGE has a book compressed so many ideas into so few pages. Using the visual language of the boardroom, Neumeier presents the first unified theory of brandingโa set of five disciplines to help companies bridge the gap between brand strategy and customer experience. Those with a grasp of branding will be inspired by the new perspectives they find here, and those who would like to understand it better will suddenly โget it.โ This deceptively simple book offers everyone in the company access to โthe most powerful business tool since the spreadsheet.โ Review: A must read for brand builders - An absolute must for brand builders and business owners who want to understand branding. Good introduction to Branding
This short book is a good introduction to Branding. I love this guy's books, but I must admit that I found Zag and The Brand Flip more compelling. This is good background reading though, but I'd read Zag first and then The Brand Flip. Only come back to Brand Gap if you need more background

Must read for anyone in Branding, Design and Marketing!
This is a must read for anyone in Design, Marketing and Branding. It sums up very well what is required to create and maintain a successful living brand. The future of branding is now - read this and a lot becomes clearer. I think it's clearly written and structured, so it lends itself well as a reference guide.

Nicely Written but too short
If you are looking for a very well written book on Branding, that takes a more creative approach towards the subject (i.e not bogged down with technical words or theory), then I would recommend this book to you. I liked how the author was very expressive in the language he used to describe concepts and it had some interesting 'arty' graphics that went along with them. I was surprised at how short the book was though and I think the main reason for this is there is a glossary of terms which takes up a large proportion of the back end of the book. I was expecting it to take a while to read, as I am a slow reader, but it only took me a few days (could have been quicker had I not read it bit by bit). Not a book that will give you a comprehensive overview on the subject.

Still relevant
I had to read this book about 10 years ago and I came across it again, so I got another copy - still relevant and easy to follow.

Well Designed
Very easy to read, tries to pin down what can be a nebulous concept, the idea of 'brand gap', basically the hole down which marketing attempts fall when the marketers ideas don't match those of the buying public. The layout is business, powerpoint style friendly. It is pithy, to the point and easily digestible for those business people with the need to address this problem or at least understand it, and not much time in which to do it. Good glossary in the revised edition.
