Christmas Spirit

I am not ashamed to say I was- and still am- a huge Donna Summer fan in the '70's. Her music was all about relaxing, having fun, and appreciating your friends and times around you, and getting away from everyday life stresses. However, I have always thought her critics never really stood back to give this wonderful talent the true recognition she deserves. Donna Summer remains a popular talent because she has an incredible voice, which I always expouse to people that try to belittle her.Of course, I bought this Christmas CD because it was Donna Summer, but even she blew me away and humbled me with this collection of Christmas songs. This is a first rate, blue ribbon production! The orchestrations are rich and full, a complement to her incredible voice, and what you would expect to hear in Christmas music to put you in a "Christmas mood." The album has a nice mixture of classic and religious Christmas songs. My favorite tune on the CD is the title track, "Christmas Spirit." The song will bring shivers to the spine of anyone who is a true Christmas believer. The Christmas medley is good too! (Thank you, Donna, for including my favorite Christmas song, "Joy To The World.")There are a lot of favorite pop/rock/country artists who have released Christmas albums. Most of the albums have turned out to be very disappointing productions to me and receive little to no playtime with me during the holiday. That is not true with this collection of songs. This is the one Christmas CD I have that I listen to during other times of the year too. It really is that good. I have played this CD during my holiday entertaining and it has received many compliments and queries as to its quality and who the artist was (those unfortunates who have been unfamiliar with her voice.) There are those rare singers, like Karen Carpenter and Ella Fitzgerald, who's voices are instantly recognized and appreciated for the "one-of-a-kind" that they are. Donna Summer has always had one of those voices to me. I guarantee this will turn into one Christmas CD that you will play over all others in your Christmas collection.

I found this by chance and, since Donna Summer was a favorite, bought it. This is a WONDERFUL Christmas album. Her voice is in top form; O Holy Night is a joy to hear. I didn't know a couple of songs but it didn't matter - she sang them so well. This album makes me realize how much we lost when she died.

This CD from Donna Summers is wonderful. I love all the Christmas music she picked to sing on this CD. She could have sung more but that is OK. If you like getting chills when you here a song sung this is the CD to get. The choir is wonderful and the orchestra is very professional. The recording is great too. Mercury Records makes a good product. Donna Summers voice is just great with the songs she picked to sing on this Christmas album and I play it all the time. Even when it is not Christmas. My last copy of this CD I had was scratched because I took it every where I went. In the car and so on. So I was happy to see it was still in print. I hope the Mercury Record company keep this CD in print for a long time?

The GREATEST Christmas CD EVER!!! Donna’s voice is flawless and her arraignments are amazing!!! Several new songs that she cowrote! I’ve worn out 3 prior CD’s!

Love this CD! This album is reverent and true to its title "Christmas Spirit". Since its release I've given it as a Christmas present a couple of dozen times. Always get the same reaction! Everyone loves it! Donna Summer stands out once again with this CD. It is yet another jewel in Donna's crown! Merry Christmas indeed!

This was a wonderful find. I was not aware of a Donna Christmas album and this one is chock full of favorites and originals by the queen herself. I will be playing this for seasons to come.

I love this album. I have had it for years on cassette but I can't play it in my car & decided to order the CD.

Da tempo avevo nella mia lista desideri qs album della mitica Donna Summer, dedicata agli standards natalizi, di cui sono cultore.Non delude le attese e conferma una volta per tutte le qualità vocali ed interpretative di questa regina della musica, conosciuta per pezzi immortali della Disco Music, ma che non sfigura a fianco di celebri rappresentanti della musica soul americana.Questo album lo conferma, contenendo versioni abbastanza classiche di canzoni di Natale conosciutissime.Meno swing quindi di altri Cd del genere, tipo Bublè, Natalie Cole, Ella Fitzgerald e molti altri.Ma che non delude, specialmente se si è fan di questa grandissima interprete, che fece sognare, ballare, innamorare, milioni di persone, grazie alle sue canzoni.I remember yes......Donna!

Bin auf diese CD durch zufälliges Suchen gestoßen und mußte sie gleich bestellen. Sehr schöne Weihnachtslieder in tollen Arrengements, vorgetragen von einer Frau, die zu Unrecht bei vielen in Vergessenheit geraten ist - Donna Summer! Leider muß ich auch hier den Klang bemängeln, der Bass ist einfach zu lasch. Im Auto kann die die CD kaum hören, bei meiner Anlage im Wohnzimmer kann ich mit dem EQ alles bestens einstellen. Ansonsten 5 Sterne!

What a wonderful album. I play it every christmas morn, and even sometimes through the year. Donna's amazing voice suits these songs so well. My favourite track being her rendition of 'O Holy Night' and Breath of Heaven just touches you in a way that not many vocalists can. Superb!! (and not just for christmas time )
