Early Mondrian: Painting 1900-1905

There are better Mondrian paintings from this period.
This is a compact and, as expected, interesting book. There is not much to find fault with it, but in my opinion (and this is therefore subjective) there are better paintings by Mondrian of this period, for example his portraits (Portrait of J.PG. Hulshoff Pol, 1905, Elisabeth Sophia Maria (Betsy) Cavalini 1901), still life's ( Apples, ginger pot and plate on a ledge 1901) and landscapes (Truncated View of the Broekzijder Mill on the Gein, Wings Facing West c. 1902). I also realise that the choice of paintings for an exhibition might have been limited, but all the paintings I have mentioned, and others, are much more impressive for me and would have given a better picture of Mondrian's early abilites and the width of scope of his early work. Generally speaking, most of Mondrian's early paintings tend to be ignored in books about him, but they add another dimensions to his story and artistic development.

A bit disappointing
A disappointing selection of paintings - was hoping some of his flower drawings may be included.
