Is sealent good for outside around windows frame on stone wall

It works perfectly to seal wood or upvc windows to brick or stone, just make sure its dry

This can't be painted - the label does state that it is NOT paintable. However, the way this is presented may not be 100% clear (I had to read it twice to check).

What heat can it withstand?

I cannot tell you the exact heat, but I can say I have used it outside for my double glazed windows for some years, and it is still perfect through hot and cold weather. With regard to exact heat, I am sure the manufacturer will be able to advise you.

Is this the same as wood putty. I need to fill gaps/cracks in external window frames-will this be ok?

It will be fine, I use in on my greenhouse, on the outside where I have some polycarbonate in the door, which is plastic and wood and it is great, so I can imagine that it will be just as good on upvc and wood or just upvc and glass. I think you will be pleased with the result.
