NarexChisel Set 4 Pieces (8/10/16/32)

I'm not a beginner however these chisels are great for the value. Work will be needed to smooth the bottoms. The chisels sharpen very easy, bold an edge pretty well. Light handles, easy to hold with little fatigue. Nice long and low profile chisel to clean out the corners when doing dovetails.

Originally I bought the Narex "imperial" (1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1) set with the intention of using these before I saved up enough money to buy a set of Lie Neilson's or Stanley Sweethearts but to my surprise after putting some time and elbow grease into flattening the backs and sharpening the bevels, this set of chisels out performed my expectations ten fold. So much so I ordered the 40mm and the 3mm for my large tenons and small sockets. Once again, after some quality time honing these two new chisels, they performed perfectly in every task I called on them for. To wrap up, I've decided to invest in this set of four Narex chisels to add to my set because I see no need in buying the more expensive ones when this set has done everything I've needed and more. I will probably end up buying a few more sizes as I find a need for them but for now I would say this chisel set is complete. 5 star chisels for 3 star price. My only recommendation would be to spend the time when you get them; clean them with some mineral spirits and a light abrasive, flatten the backs, hone the bevels, use a leather strop after each use, and purchase an anti-rust liquid (I use wd-40) to keep them fresh. Doing this will ensure a set of chisels that will last a lifetime!

Nice set I bought to fill out my sizes, had to spend some time making them sharp but nice chisels.

I had to sharpen these when I received them but the metal and design is very high quality. So far, I have used them on a few projects and the edges have held true. I can shave off a sliver or a big chunk with little effort. I am already looking at other products by the same manufacture.

These are great chisels. They need very little work to become excellent chisels straight out of the box. I will buy more.

Nachdem mir der Weihnachtsmann (auf meinen kleinen Tipp hin) heuer statt dem 14. Pulli oder der 18. Krawatte endlich etwas geschenkt hat, was mir wirklich Spaß macht, habe ich die Stemmeisen die letzten drei Wochen lang so gut es mir mit meinen unprofessionellen Mitteln möglich war getestet, udn mein erstes Bauprojekt mit ihnen umgesetzt.In Kurz: ich konnte keinen Unterschied zu den Premium-Werkzeugen aus Deutschland und Österreich feststellen, und das obwohl diese Stemmeisen nur einen Bruchteil kosten. Klare Empfehlung von meiner Seite.Um die Eisen zu testen, habe ich das 32-er in den Schraubstock gespannt und versucht, es zu verbiegen, keine Chance, eher hätte ich die Werkbank umgeworfen. Ein Kratztest mit einer Feile zeigte, dass da wirklich harter, hochwertiger Stahl verarbeitet wurde, ich sah keinen Unterschied zu einem vergleichsweise angekratzten Premium-Stemmeisen von der teuren Marke mit der roten Frucht. Auch den Schliff hätte ich selber nicht besser machen können, die Stemmeisen bestehen die Papierprobe ohne Weiteres.Mir fiel auf, dass das 32-er Eisen nicht hundertprozentig symmetrisch geformt war, und obwohl das eher ein optischer Mangel ist als ein echtes Problem bekam ich sofort die Wahl zwischen kostenfreiem Austausch und einer kleinen Gutschrift. So geht Service.Nachdem ich die Eisen also ausgiebig und misstrauisch beäugt und so gut ich das mit meinen Mitteln kann getestet habe, gings ans Werk, und erwartungsgemäß haben die Stemmeisen ihre Feuerprobe, den Bau eines Vordachs mit Zapfenverbindungen, ohne jede Beschädigung überstanden (Bild). Gegenüber dem Billigmist, mit dem ich mich davor abgeplagt habe, war das wie Tag und Nacht.Einziges kleines Manko war, dass der Satz mein Lieblingseisen, ein 22-er oder 25-er, nicht enthält. Ich habe mir ein einzelnes Eisen bei holzwerken.de nachbestellt, interessanter Weise fand ich es im "offenen" Internet deutlich unter 20 Euro (inc. Versand), hier wäre es wesentlich teurer gewesen. Ebenso erstaunt sah ich aber auch, dass es Anbieter gibt, die genau dieses Set mit fantasievollen Werbetexten kombiniert für 120 (!) Euro anbieten, hier hat das Set keine 40.- gekostet. Na ja, wer nicht vergleicht, ist selber schuld.Ich jedenfalls bin wunschlos glücklich mit meinem Werkzeug und freue mich schon auf die nächsten Holzarbeiten. Ein Carport aus Holz steht als Bauprojekt für dieses Jahr an, sollten sich die Eisen wider erwarten doch nicht so gut bewähren berichte ich ggf.1/2019 AL.

I like these - a step up from the basic chisel set I had previously.Downside is that the box is definitely throw away, so your first chisel job should be to make a wooden box to hold them!Be aware, also, that they have exposed wooden handles so using a metal hammer on them would be inadvisable. I bought a Thor rubber headed mallet to use with them and the feel and control with the combination is excellent.
