A classic
Nothing but love and goodness. Does not feel off-putting or preachy, as so many children's books these days do; manages to make the world look like a better place in a natural way.

This book is cutting all the onions
I'm having a hard time reading this to my kids, as I just start sobbing. It's a very emotional book, in a good way. Be prepared, though.

it grows on you, baby loves it.
It took some getting used to. "Catch that baby up" is not a term we would use so it was odd at first.I got this book for my then 1 yr old and she still loves it at 2yrs. When I read it I have to rock her when I read "swings the baby all around" and kiss her belly/ nibble toes when the story says they did. She has memorized parts of the book and asks for it frequently when it is on rotation.

I don't care for it but my daughter loves it!
I'm torn between what I think of the book and what my daughter thinks. She's 17 months old and wants to read this book daily. I, like other reviewers, found the text a bit awkward at first. Now that I've read it aloud about a million times and added my own twists and actions to accompany the story (kisses on the tummy, toes, eyes) I'm getting lulled into liking the book too. I LOVE that the white grandmother has a black grandbaby and that the daddy is a super dad and that there is an asian mother and daughter. The illustrations don't grab me because they have kind of a messy look, but they obviously grab my girl, because she just stares and stares at each page. So...take what you will from this review. For the amount of fun it's given us, despite my initial misgivings, I think it's worth a try. In fact, I'm buying it for a friend's baby for xmas.

Black child with white grandmother
Itโs a good story except I didnโt like that they named the black child โ little pumpkinโ. To me, thatโs a racially induced name selection and was not a neutral name for a black child. I also do not know why they chose the black child to live with her grandmother, as it being black means that you're less likely to be parented by a mother or father . The worse part is that the black child has a while grandmother.

Original and delightful
Reading some of the negative reviews, I was a little apprehensive about the text, but on receiving the parcel I opened the book and with no problem, read it for the first time, out loud. The words tripped easily and joyfully off my tongue and I had no difficulty at all reading them - despite the colourful lettering, the text is large on most pages and distinct enough from the rest of the picture. The rhythm is like natural, playful speech and just the sort of thing one says to babies. Those who find it awkward must be reading it totally the wrong way or else are verbally challenged? As for the art work, it is full of movement, energy and colour, and while not conventionally 'pretty' in depicting the adults, is probably quite a true representation of most of us. If you don't happen to like it, your children undoubtedly will. My two year old son really enjoys the pictures and the stories, is delighted by the babies, and completely relates to the adults, too. Don't be put off by those unfortunate negative reviews.

Colorful and Fun!
Colorful! And captures the typical play between moms, dads, grandmas and babies. The kids in my kindergarten classes loved this book. And my grandson loved this book...I personalized the book for him by adding some pages: one with a photo of his grandfather (no grandfather mentioned in the book so I had to put one in my copy ;) taking his grandson on a bike ride and the toddler saying "more." I wrote words with the same rhyming rhythms as the story pages. And another photo of my grandson as a toddler in his highchair with a face smeared with berry juice, making the hand "sign" for more that is taught to babies nowadays...Not only do kids like the book, but adults can have a great time if they get into the loving emotionsand the rhythms while reading it.

A favorite board book
I've gotten this board book for my kids and now for their kids. It is a wonderful board book that encourages the adults to interact with their young children... full of joy.

Four Stars
A cute book for a small child.

Disappointing
A disappointing book - sweet illustrations, study and a nice size for little readers but definitely seems to be written for an American audience, as the way it's written doesn't really flow with a British accent. It also starts with a nice rhythm but seems to lose this as the book goes on. Certainly better alternatives around.
