Superb Collection
Well worth it for fans who want a wide coverage of Genesis eras. For me it’s mid period Genesis that’s the best alongside Lamb… and Selling England… material.

Superb … almost
As per many of the other reviews the content and sound quality of what is there is superb! The full Lyceum gig on its own dedicated pair of CD’s and in the right order, plus the Wembley gig not split with 2 songs on a separate disc would be a massive improvement though. I am lucky enough to own the Highland live recording of the Lyceum gig and the Dance on a Volcano/Los Endos is first rate and deserves to be here. Packaged well, excellent ‘book’ accompaniment and hearing Tommy Vance’s Lyceum broadcast introduction again after 40 odd years just puts the icing on the cake!Personally, I love all eras of Genesis, each were great in their own way imho, but just because it’s got more Collins than Gabriel or it didn’t include your favourite track(s) doesn’t make it worthy of a poor review, surely … just don’t buy it in the first place!

Too many fade outs of the crowd and no on stage comments.
To start with I love Genesis and have seen them in concert over 50 times since December 1970 until the last gig at the o2 Arena London in March 2022.I was also at the Lyceum gig in 1980 and both Knebworth and Wembley gigs and the intro to songs on stage is the fun part of the show so why do we not get any on-stage chat on this box set?It was nice to hear (RIP) DJ Tommy Vance's introduction at the start of the Lyceum gig but why keep in the DJ chat later on?When will Genesis release a live and uncut version of all the shows and other gigs for the fans like King Crimson?

Genesis boxset
One of (if not) the best live bands ever, perfectly captured in this fantastic boxset. Definite must have for any live music lover, especially if a fan of genesis!

Outstanding.
This is an excellent release. My main interest was the Lyceum set from 1980, and this forms a magnificent centrepiece to this set. A show demonstrating a band at the peak of their powers, exceptionally tight but never dry. Many will be familiar with the bootlegs of this show. Thankfully the remastering is night & day in comparison. It sounds as good as any of the other main Genesis live albums now. Worth the price alone. The 5 discs are tastefully packaged and the accompanying booklet is interesting and has some great photos. Whilst some omissions and edits will frustrate completists, frankly any official release is gratefully received nowadays.Obviously a must have for any serious Genesis fan, I’m pleased to see this work given the spruce up and official release it deserves. Also good to see the Wilson era represented. Highly recommend.

Awesome!
Tony Banks apparently curated this and it shows, just like his solo albums the concern is flawed and the restraint and magic of the group experience is clearly missing. The running order is nonsense, single concerts are split over two cds, they leave out more than they put in, the 1970 gems are great to have again but to be fair are pretty lame BUT IT ALL WORKS.It’s a new Genesis product and a great one.The Duke Suit, complete on an official release at last.Wembley 1987 on CD, a bit of Knebworth here, some Vine or Ripples there and in between some great classics.I love it. Every Genesis fan needs this in their collection.

Could have been better
Firstly I should say that I love all periods of Genesis and with the exception of five tracks (“I Can’t Dance” and the extremely lame “Not About Us” along with the three from 1970 which are interesting but very embryonic) it’s all good stuff here and there’s nothing to criticise from a purely musical perspective. However, the track choices are very frustrating. For example, a great version of Return Of The Giant Hogweed is missing from the Paris Studios 1972 session. We get solitary tracks from the various Sounds Of The 70’s and Top Gear dates and Wembley ‘75 when we all know the BBC recorded much more than just those. The most disappointing thing for me personally is only five tracks from Knebworth ‘78 and one of those is the drum duet. Meanwhile there are an unnecessary ten tracks from Wembley ‘87. I have yet to determine whether these are the same versions as the official Wembley ‘87 concert film but even if they’re not, the differences across the four nights they did will be negligible. No offence to Ray Wilson but I don’t think there are many people who would be too bothered if the 1998 songs weren’t included. And finally there are a handful of tracks which were previously released on the archive box sets so no need to include those either. The whole of the 1978 show could have been squeezed in had they considered the above issues. My point is that I believe they’ve opted for more of a career overview than a collection of the BBC material which would be genuinely welcomed by big lifelong fans (presumably the people most likely to buy this) ie. the complete sessions from earlier periods. I get that they probably tried to avoid repetition with songs but still, it leaves me unsatisfied despite the brilliance of the music presented here.Secondly the sound quality, although not bad, isn’t a massive improvement on the bootlegs that have been widely available for years. In fact my bootleg of Paris Studios ‘72 sounds better than it does here. In this day and age there is no excuse really, I could improve it myself simply by sticking it in GarageBand and tweaking a few things. Nobody wants a modern horrendously compressed sound but a bit of EQ here and there would have been appreciated. Eradicating unwanted noise is relatively easy nowadays too.My last gripe (honest!) is the sequencing. Splitting concerts across two discs when it would fit on one if there weren’t other odd tracks stuck either before or after. Two tracks from 1998 sandwiched in between ‘87 and ‘92, why would you do that?!So the positives! What there is of Knebworth ‘78 is superb, as is the Lyceum ‘80 stuff which is almost a complete set although seems to be taken from both nights (and different to the bootleg I have) The between song banter from PC has been edited out which is a shame but probably a wise move as you don’t need to hear that every time. Excellent versions of Get ‘Em Out By Friday and Watcher Of The Skies from ‘72 and ‘75 respectively and it’s very nice to hear an alternate version of Harlequin from ‘72. Thankfully the 1992 Knebworth selection features the tracks I would have chosen myself: Old Medley, Driving The Last Spike and Fading Lights, even if we do have to put up with I Can’t Dance to finish. The inclusion of Hold On My Heart is welcome too as it’s a gorgeous if very uncharacteristic Genesis song. The packaging is adequate, discs housed in card wallets with the individual track listing on the back of each one. I like that as it’s more convenient than having to refer to the book or box for listings. The book itself is slightly superfluous, it skims over the details of each recording in casual fashion, giving you the essential information but not much more. All housed in a sturdy little box with a lift off lid, again I like that as hinges tend to wear and tear. I quite like the artwork, Genesis written in the old BBC typeface is a nice touch. The packaging does not warrant a hefty price tag however, it’s not exactly lavish compared to similarly priced box sets and I decided to be patient and wait for the price to drop, which it did, to just under £40. I think that’s fair.I have a feeling that the remainder of the sessions might appear officially eventually, particularly full concerts released as stand alone albums. There are only so many compilations they can release and they have to have something to top up the coffers, but until then, this will do, it’s a good listen and a reminder of what a fantastic band they were.

Live, through the eras.
Box set arrived in good condition, CD's inside were well packaged and accessible.I am a massive Genesis fanatic, I own everything and have assuringly heard everything. I've occasionally scratched my head at the band's choices on a few of their compilations over the years. I'd glad to finally pick up this one. I have the two Archive sets from the late 90s - early aughts, the album remaster boxes with their included bonus discs, have heard various bootlegs, and even the compilation that accompanied the Last Domino? tour. The BBC box set is a joy to listen to. Some of the material is familiar, certainly, but there are new (to me) performances of many of the older tracks, and its nice to have polished, but still authentic, recordings of the Knebworth, Lyceum (Duke era), and Invisible Touch tours available. I do wish they could have kept Phil's banter on the Duke show, but at least the music is all there.Would have been nice to have had all the material available on the Vinyl edition as well, but its a choice that was likely made to keep the set affordable. I bought the CDs, and applaud the overall presentation. The included booklet is well done, not a lot new for a fan like me, but nicely put together all the same. The outer box is a basic top opener that is intended to resemble a road case; there is a ribbon to efficiently remove the CDs, which are housed in individual cardboard sleeves. The discs sit tightly in their sleeves and require some slight effort to remove, and I'd be concerned about scratching them with repeated use. The book sits on top of the recessed section that contains the CDs. The overall package is compact, roughly the size of a couple of standard blu-ray cases, and looks attractive on a shelf.A must buy? Perhaps not, and probably not the ideal introduction for new or casual fans, but a nice treat for longtime listeners to satisfy the itch for new content. There isn't much left out there we haven't heard, other than deep diving into Steve Hackett's and Anthony Phillips catalog, or Brand X at this point, but it's good to have this. A video rerelease of the full Lyceum show or HD/4K remaster of Shepparton or Mama at this point, maybe even the Womad reunion - get on it boys.
