They have been well sandblasted, so very clean and after a washing, good to go for cooking.I have not broiled on them yet, but I have faith.

well worth the money. I bought 12 of these and not one blemish or chip. The size is terrific - perfect for a portion of Coquille St Jacques, shrimp cocktail or ceviche. Bakeable and hand washable... comes out clean with a sponge. And they are beautiful to look at. I definitely recommend this!
