Q: Has anyone played this as a single player game? If so, then how was it? Thanks.

Yes I've played 3 or 4 single player games and 2 or 3 multiplayer games and solo basically works the same as multiplayer as its up to you how many investigators you control through the companion app. This game is really good and if you liked the original version then this is quite the improvement as the app works as the GM. One word of advice though make sure that you app is 1.04 version or above before playing the 2nd scenario (innsmouth) as there is a bug in the older versions that causes the game to crash and not complete

No. There are no rules or components to run the game manually. The app does a very good job of this and makes it smoother to play than the 1st edition.

Q: Do you need the first edition to play this ?

No you don't. You will need Mansions of Madness Second Edition. The First Edition components can be incorporated into the Second Edition game, but it isn't necessary.

Q: Can this be played solo or is more geared for multi player

This game plays well solo and scales well for any player count.
