Do I have to lightly sand/do anything to the small rust spots before applying? I’m not sure what ‘kills old rust’ means and how it affects paintwork.

No, you don’t have to sand it, just brush off loose dirt. A layer of dust helps key it to the metal. It doesn’t harm the paint, but does tend to creep up the face of the paintwork, so needs wiping off occasionally. The creeping is good as it gets into all the nooks and crannies.

Hi Silverback....The inside surfaces of my LandRover doors were quite rusty; clearing as much of the loose matter and debris certainly helps with the adhesion of the Waxoyl and one year on it appears to be doing the job. I would imagine a similar approach to your roof would be advisable. Regards. John Marino.

Would this be suitable for painting a raw steel bike frame ? How is it best applied and it will it leave a smooth clear coat finish? Thanks

Waxoyl is not a transparent paint and would not be suitable for application to a bicycle frame. It has a gooey consistancy similar to runny jam or thick cream when being applied and stays flexible for long periods. It is superb for protecting steel items subjected to adverse, wet conditions such as motor car underside mechanical components. I use a hand spray gun or paint brush for application. Not suitable for human contact after application; it becomes messy if handled and would not be kind to clothing. Try a high quality enamel paint over a good metal primer.

Would it be advisable to spray the underside of my caravan which is thick ply with fixed metal attachments like corner steadies, motor mover drive etc

Prevents rust

To anyone unfamiliar with this stuff, it's like gloopy wax that when you put it on metal with a brush or thin and spray it, eventually it goes hard like candle wax and seals the metal preventing corrosion. The 5L tins are cheaper per volume than smaller sizes and its useful for protecting metal things if you live in a rust inducing environment like damp UK and/or near the sea. There are similar products around that work on grease/oil coating. Steam cleaning will remove waxoyl should you ever want it gone.

Does what it says on the tin. Needs to be used in very warm weather when it it's self is warm and will spray or brush on easily. Avoid contact with interior materials and seat belt webbing.
