My Mate Jack: A Heated Beat Story

There are very few of us who haven’t wondered what it might have been like to have a best friend from childhood with whom we ended up romantically. This is a fun story of two English boys who struggle to communicate their feelings, and to sort out the meaning of their sexual activity.

Garrett Leigh is one of my favorite authors. My Mate Jack is another winner in my book.Will and Jack have been best mates since childhood. Will is gay and in love with Jack who is straight.This book follows the lads through their separation when Will attends Uni in Leeds and Jack goes after his dream of being a professional DJ in Ibiza.But first while still in high school, Jack offers his kissing services to Will so he can practice. Will accepts the offer and they wind up kissing all night.Then 3 years later, Jack asks Will to return the favor. Jack is still a virgin and doesn't want to go to Ibiza without any experience. Will is his best friend and he knows Will won't laugh at him. Despite the fact that Jack is straight and kissing is a lot different than sex, knowing that Jack wants him to be his first he agrees.Now it's time for Will to leave for Uni. When he goes to say good bye to Jack, Jack isn't home, with his feelings hurt by this, he decides to leave a letter for Jack.Now away from home and each other, sporadic emails and a very occasional visit are all the lads have.Busy schedules, jealous boyfriends that aren't really boyfriends, misguided magazine articles, family drama, medical problems and lots & lots of miscommunication come into play. Basically angst as only Garrett Leigh can do!As frustrated as I got with these lads, I loved them both and was rooting for them the whole way. This was a great friends to lovers book and I was pleased with the ending.Great job Garrett!

It was so nice to read British English vocab for a change. I wish more romance books were written in non-US English when the author isn't an American.At the start of the story, Will and Jack are in their late teens and best friends. Will is already out to Jack, who is straight. The chemistry between the pair was awesome. I really liked the first half of this story a great deal, and at that point the book easily earned 4 stars. The second half was more of 3 star experience, where the miscommunication became frustratingly drawn out rather than escalating the tension. Still, the two guys were adorable together and well deserved their HEA.

This one didn’t break my heart like most of Garrett’s books but it did squeeze my heart at times and made to hard to breathe. I felt so bad for Will for most of the book, then at the end you get a real glimpse into Jack’s feelings and view is the situation and you can’t help but feel for him too after kinda thinking he was a bit of a bastard for part of the book. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series!

This is a friends to lovers romance. Jack and Will both take their time to get together as a couple but when they do they make up for lost time!

Not the usual story line at all. Good character development for a short work and a story line that keeps it interesting with minimal amounts of confusion or angst.

All of Garrett's books are amazing this one included. She takes you on a journey with her men that truly touches your heart.

Garrett Leigh I love your books that's all that needs to be said, I'm eagerly waiting for the next. Brilliant read!

But still kept this one in mind glad I came back to it . Really enjoyed it a story of life long friends one gay one straight always together with a group of friends until the time came to leave school both going in different directions but still remains friends .I like the book of the reason it is true to Form how they stayed friend but keeping a secret that they loved each other but keep it from each other for years not giving the story away a happy ending a true to life has a fictional book can get well worth the five stars .

A very tenderly written love story where personal insecurities and resentment of one family member confuses two best friends who, with time, some.angst and finally some honesty allow them both to finally reveal their true feelings for one another.Some great characters combined with a storyline mixed with self doubt, individual anger and mistrust keep you glued to the book right up to the final sentence. Well with a read and fully deserving of a 5* review.

What I love most about this book is the fact you really feel for the characters and found yourself really routing for them.I genuinely didn,t want the book to end. I will definitely be reading more books by this author. Lovely book Garrett, thank you!

A great story for these guys who been mates in their young years. Feeling what's right... Will knows what he what's but its another case for poor Jack. Jack's searching and figuring things out after a kiss that rocks his world up side down. Secrets are in play and twists are not as they appear with Jack.Includes friends to lovers, virgin, distance, straight to gay, family deals and hot scenes and emails oh and more emails.Will silently wanted to kiss Jack, there in school years before exploring the world for future. A hot snogging which they both shared and both remember.
