is this worth the extra 500 over the X3700?

The X4700 has the following features that the X3700 doesn’t Jitter Reduction D.D.S.C. HD Digital 32 bit Bass Sync Built-in 3D up mixer 125 watt rms (0.05%) THD vs. 105 watt rms (0.08%) THD Higher output power 200 vs. 180 Higher S/N ratio 102 vs. 100 Alpha processing AL 32 processing multichannel 3 zones vs. 2 Gold plated terminals 8 HDMI vs. 7

Do all hdmi inputs of this unit support all of the advertised hdmi 2.1 features (4k/120hz pass-through, vrr, etc.)?

There is one input labelled 8K which was set up to support 8k/60fps and 4k/120fps input. Because of an issue with the 2.1 chip, this would not work with XBOX Series X or RTX 30xx PC GPUs. However, Denon has created an external fix (box with power supply, HDMI in, and HDMI out) to fix that problem. Also there is a work around -- connect the HDMI 2.1 output directly to the HDMI 2.1 port on the TV and use ARC/EARC to get audio. Although I have the "fix" box, I am using the work around at present for my XBOX Series X.

What is this ? Why should I buy it?

No you shouldn't buy it until you have a clue.

Can I do 9.2.2 with this receiver? I will use an extra amplifier for additional 2 speakers, however, I want to still use 2 subwoofers.

It’s 9 channels powered. 2 outputs for the subs If you are wiring 11 channels you will need an additional 2 channel amp or go to the 6700h
