The Best Ever
What a fantastic release! So far, I have only listened to the Mudd Club Show. The sound is excellent.I remember the first time Frank Zappa performed live at Wembley Arena in London in 1980.The line-up was the same as the Mudd Club Show, except that Steve Vai joined the band for the London show. The performance was fantastic and an unforgettable experience for me.Whether you’re a fanatic, a fan, or a casual listener of Frank Zappa’s music, l can not recommend this release highly enough.

An excellent live album
So from concerts in 1980 we have this release - and it is a great release. i have played all three discs three times so far with the amp up to 11 and it sounds fantastic. What a band . I only managed to see Mr Zappa live once and that was in 1979 in Brighton. He and his band were really tight and some of the music on this release were on his set list at that time. And its available at a very good price. And don' forget "Don't go where those huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow" ... very good advice i say. If you buy this set you will ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY.

At last an official radio show in high quality!
This Zappa band toured spring & summer 1980 and also recorded the excellent studio double album You Are What You Is. A couple of live tracks by them also appeared on the Tinsel Town Rebellion album, but Munich is a superior release to TTR which was too keyboard heavy for my liking. Munich has far more emphasis on the lead guitar. The Munich concert was the last date of the tour and was professionally recorded and broadcast by the. King Biscuit Flower hour radio network, so it has been heavily bootlegged. This is the complete concert rather than the 60 minute radio show, and is in far superior sound quality than even official King Biscuit vinyl issues. It is nice to hear a top quality radio show after all the dodgy grey import versions we get swamped with these days.So Munich is a real treat. The other disc is from a small NY club gig i by the same line up earlier in the tour, and is from a soundboard tape recording. So it has lesser sound quality and the performances not as well tuned, but it does make an interesting comparison to the Munich gig.So five stars for Munich, three stars for the Mudd Club, thats 4.3 stars overall. A nice addition to the Zappa canon.

Conceptual continuity, and new versions
A worthy addition to the FZ canon. Some new insights, jokes, onstage patter, conceptual continuity, folklore etc. Guitar WAY too high in the mix in lots of tracks (Mudd Club), better mix in the Europe concert. Good interaction though, and well worth the price. Why are some new FZ releases so expensive compared to others?? Hardcore fans will buy, dabblers - less likely to engage. Wish I'd been at those Mudd Club shows...

explosive
Thanks to Amazon I have been able t enjoy many of Frank's post releases.Living in Cape Town can be a bit isolated when it comes to music releases on cd.I cannot wait for for the local releases of Amazon here. This is Frank raw and ready for war. Some of his guitar work just sounds so angry and explosive like he was getting some frustrations out.Zappa at his most deadly.

Gems from the Zappa archives. Tight band and great recording. A worthy addition to everyone’s FZ collection.

Frank Zappa - Mudd Club/Munich '80 (3CDs)
Saludos.
