MAP HARD COPY
Although I am a great believer and user of Sat Navs they can only get you from A to B and you can miss so much along the way without a hard copy map Map is plastic coated so you can write on it to plan routes and erase if required ( provided you have not used a permanent marker pen ) Map covers all of California on both sides and this can be a little frustrating at times as once the map is fully opened it is quite large and turning it over is not the easiest of tasks Always seem to plan routes locations that straddle to font and back of the map

Decent effort. Would recommend.
Used it extensively to verify Google Maps navigation during a three-week long, 2000 mile road-trip through California, Arizona and Nevada (well, just Las Vegas really). I've dealt with plenty of maps in the past that try to cram in too much sight-seeing information and obscure junctions / interconnections so that you can't determine whether you can exit/join certain roads without resorting to another source of information such as Google. We didn't have that problem at all with this one... It's clear, accurate (as far as the routes we used) and focuses on the roads primarily with just key mountains, lakes and points of interest marked on it (not at all overdone). Would be nice to have a few more city street maps included but that is picking at straws really.

Detailed & Large
This is a great detailed road map of California and part of Nevada (including Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon). My partner and I are going on a road trip holiday to California + Vegas and Grand Canyon in less than two weeks. We are travelling from San Francisco and ending at Las Vegas, going via Yosemite, Los Angeles and Grand Canyon. This map has been a big help in planning that. I have used it to mark the places we want to stop off on our way to these places and the roads we will use. We have a sat nav but it is nice to know we have something to fall back on if that doesn't play ball. I do however agree with other reviewers in that due to the details on this map, it is HUGE. It would indeed be quite a struggle to open it all out in a car; I have had it opened all out spread across my lounge floor and even that was a struggle. However, I'm sure we can open it and fold it so that the roads and areas we need are accessible, rather than the full map. If we hadn't been going to Vegas/Grand Canyon I may have been tempted to cut that bit off to make it smaller, but we need that bit too! All in all, a great and very details map and I'm hoping it will stop us from getting lost. It is better to be big and details rather than small and useless!

Just what you need for a driving tour of the state
Just what we needed for a driving tour of the state. Sufficient detail to take smaller roads when we wanted, distances between key locations and points of interest clearly indicated so that we could google them on the laptop and decide whether or not we would detour to visit. Yes we had a sat nav for driving but a sat nav doesn't tell you what you're passing near, and might like to visit, and it doesn't allow you to choose an alternative route because it looks prettier on a map.

Great map.
We flew to San Francisco and trundled around California and the big parks for 4x weeks in our RV. Great map really useful. BTW take your own sat nav with you - loaded with North American maps - then you have the perfect combination.

Great coverage of California and parts of Nevada and Arizona
This is a great map for planning a road trip around California - it also includes parts of Nevada and Arizona ie Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon - it allows you to see the 'bigger picture'. Would have given it 5 stars except that it is a little unwieldy as it is printed on both sides. Have used it a lot so far and I think it will be well used on our trip in October.

A map of roughly a third of the USA land area, NOT just California!
Did my research and this came up as the best map for a road trip of California. Somewhat bemused to find it covers all of California, as you'd expect but also, most of Arizona, half of Utah, most of Nevada, and about a third of Oregon! Bearing in mind the vastness of these areas and the scale of the map two things should be considered before you purchase the map:- 1. The size of the map (very thick and heavy when folded and huge when unfolded, really huge!). 2. The scale is 1 : 800,000 which does not give you much detail if you are looking to travel on smaller roads.Makes you appreciate how lucky we are in the UK with our totally wonderful and unappreciated ordnance survey maps of varying scales. Don't think anything similar exists in the USA.
