The best of the best of Scrooges
There are many versions of Scrooge and many are very good, yet this has survived severe competition to remain the brightest and most heartwarming of all. Central to its success is the wonderful photography, further enhanced by this high quality redefined version. Sims is astonishing in the main role, ably aided by a galaxy of supporting actors including the earnest Mervyn John and the wonderful Katherine Harrison. George Cole, Sims’ adopted son, is to be found here and even Miles Malleson has a cameo role. I have bought two copies for my daughters and I hope that their children will also enjoy this film in the decades ahead. A ‘must buy’.

Remastered to perfection
This is the best version of Scrooge with Alistair Sim. I've certainly bought a few versions over the years in search of a quality print. Sadly there are a lot that offer very poor quality. The original print for Scrooge doesn't appear to be in great nick, but B.F.I have done a great job cleaning it up to the best I've seen. There are still a few sound issues (very minor) but the overall picture and sound quality here are outstanding for this film. I'm glad the BFI have finally restored this absolute gem to a fine watchable standard. It's probably the best filmed version of the Christmas Carol story. Alistair Sim, obviously being a fine character actor, is able to show us the definitive version of Scrooge. For a feel good Christmas film, I doubt it gets much better than this (well It's A Wonderful Life is right up there to). Just remember to buy the B.F.I remastered edition.

Definitive version of Dicken's classic.
This film is without doubt the definitive version of the classic story. Alistair Sim is absolutely perfect in the role. I've seen other versions, and to me this is the go to version for Dicken's classic Christmas tale. This release includes both the colour and Black and white versions, and the clean up and remastering have made a tremendous difference to it. The colour version is respectable to be sure, but the black and white add an atmosphere that colour can't match. I would recommend the original every time. The only disappointment with this release is the lack of special features. I really feel that some historic materials must exist;, photos, interviews, trailers, something to add incentive for bringing it to a new audience, or even just for the fans of such an exceptional piece of British cinema. These gripes of course in no way detract from my recommendation of the movie. It deserves the five stars for the work done and the film itself. But that's all.

Highly recommended: wonderful quality, wonderful film
I've had this film for years on videotape and finally got the DVD version to replace it. The 2015 remastering in this version is incredible - it's so sharp it almost seems unnatural for the first few minutes, but after you're used to it it's wonderful to watch. It's also in the correct nearly square format - avoid the fake letterbox versions like the plague. Sound quality is very good for the period too. No bonus features other than an additional colourized version which won't appeal to traditionalists like me, but the film itself is well worth the purchase. And if you don't know the film this is in my view the very best of the many movie and TV adaptations of Dicken's A Christmas Carol over the years - the acting style is period 1950s but the characters are strong, the lighting and direction superb and the overall effect is bittersweet - the morality tale is as relevant today as when it was first published in 1843.

The Christmas carol DVD with exactly into a written in his memoirs by the writer
I got this Scrooge DVD because it is an original film which makes the look of Scrooge real at the time I'm and my daughter was doing her course work on this she did not know that I was going to send this film she thought I was going to send a more up-to-date but the original film was more to do with Robert Louis Stevenson's book and also film which Hollywood made I am very grateful for this film but I think she was looking for more like the Jim Carrey one which isn't actually the same as the original remember the story of the Christmas carol was more depicted as the actual thing with his friend Marley pulling the chains in the scene of festival with the happy giant in the film and it shows the last part the ghost standing over the empty hole

Utterly superb.
Superb. The best telling of Dickens' fabulous tale has been given a great new lease of life with this remastered version. One of the best British films ever made. This release also contains a separate DVD containing the colourised version of the film, but don't let that trouble you.

This is a great film and you get both Black & White and Colour, the mean reason for not giving this film five starts is this, on this web site it states that this film is PG, it's not it is U and for the runing time, it states on the Amazon web page as being 95 mins long, this again is not right, it's only 83 mins long, but it is still a great fim if you are into Black & Whites, hope this helps guiys

one step forward - two steps back....
I have three versions of this classic movie on dvd.Its a Christmas eve staple in my home and has been for 30 years. This so called "remastered version", has improved the picture quality to some extent, however there are vertical lines through the print at places which should have been removed in the "remastering" process. The sad thing is the audio quality has gone in the opposite direction. The are a number of loud clicks at the start of sections, that interfere with the enjoyment of the film, that are not in the un-remastered versions. In short , the quality control is appalling and not worth the premium cost in my opinion. My copy is going back....
