Royal Pens Delight Fountain Pen Orange With Iridium Nip & Free ink Converter

As a fountain pen using sketcher I predictably favour Lamy AlStar and Safari pens. I thought I'd try this as a direct comparison that I might be able to recommend to my students, saving them a few quid in the process. I don't think I will. The design is very much a copy of the Lamy pens I mentioned but with all the manufacturing refinement removed. The two main body parts do not screw together well - you can feel the pen flex in the middle like a snapped pencil when you use it, as a result you find yourself constantly rescrewing the two halves together as they slowly unscrew themselves (though even when completely tight, there's still pronounced flex). I might try and fit some sort of rubber washer between the two halves - like lots of fountain pens have - rather than the solid one that comes fitted though I doubt it'll make much difference. The ink in mine isn't flowing too well but it's often a case of experimenting with different inks in different pens so I'm not prepared to criticise this aspect so soon after receiving the pen. I was pleasantly surprised to find the pen come with a piston fill reservoir fitted at this cost, it might come in handy elsewhere I guess. This pen isn't terrible but is it worth paying a few more quid for the safari it's so obviously trying to mimic? Yes, absolutely.

A perfectly acceptable fountain pen, but nowhere near as pleasant to use as the Lamy Safari that it's clearly an attempt to imitate. The plastic is brittle, and the nib is erratic. In short, spend a few pound more and get a Safari, rather than this.

Yes good, but forgot to ensure there was a bottle of ink around or at least refills.

The ink doesn't flow well which slows down the writing and the writing is patchy
