While the board and pegs are solid wood, the shapes are just painted pressboard, and anyone who knows anything about preschoolers knows that they bite stuff. Well, it only takes one quick chomp to bust these out, unfortunately.

This review is for the "D" style. I got this as a gift for a friend's one year old. Its been a couple of weeks and I'm told its in the regular toy rotation so that's good. Its well made. There aren't any rough edges and the paint looks like it should last. Another plus is its definitely going to help with fine motor skills. My son had a toy like this when he was that age and played with it a lot, he used to say he was "orgaknocking" :)

This toy is already in regular rotation, my daughter loves it. Pegs are smooth and well designed; the shapes go in without trouble for little ones. We have been using it for couple of months and no issues with pegs falling.Colors on the shapes are super cute. The finish is soft, great toy overall.

Now that this style of shape sorting is becoming popular again, it's really important to be aware of the measurements before ordering for your little one. Over the past year, we've accidentally purchased absurdly small ones and pleasantly large ones. This well-made, attractive set falls right in the middle and would be best for supervised play for ages 2-4 (particularly if you also have younger babies and opportunistic dogs waiting to gnaw on stray pieces.)

Good toy for teaching dexterity control & colors. The toy has passed ASTM test and CPSIA/CPC certification. Very good Montessori toy, makes a great gift for 2-3 year olds.
