Transcend's JetDrive 820: A Powerful SSD Upgrade for Your Mac
🚀 As someone who demands top-notch performance from my MacBook, I was excited to try out the Transcend JetDrive 820 SSD. This PCIe-powered drive promised lightning-fast speeds of up to 950 MB/s, making it an enticing upgrade option.👍 The installation process was straightforward, thanks to the included tools and the JetDrive Toolbox software. The latter proved to be a valuable companion, allowing me to monitor the drive's health and even update the firmware when necessary.💨 True to its claims, the JetDrive 820 delivered blistering read and write speeds, significantly improving the responsiveness of my MacBook Pro. Everyday tasks like file transfers, video editing, and 3D graphics rendering were noticeably snappier.🤔 One potential downside is the lack of an enclosure option, which means you'll need to handle the installation yourself. While Transcend does offer the JetDrive 825 kit with a Thunderbolt enclosure, the JetDrive 820 is a more bare-bones solution.👨💻 Customers have generally praised the quality and performance of the JetDrive 820, with many praising the ease of installation and the substantial speed boost it provides. However, a few have expressed concerns about the value, especially for those seeking a more plug-and-play solution.🌟 Overall, the Transcend JetDrive 820 is an excellent choice for Mac users looking to breathe new life into their machines. The combination of blazing-fast speeds, compatibility with a wide range of MacBook models, and the helpful JetDrive Toolbox software make this a compelling upgrade option. 💻

Simple, Robust and (relatively) affordable upgrade solution.
This is a great product which makes a difficult upgrade procedure simple and quick. They provide two necessary screw drivers and all you need is 10 minutes and some precision. With my MacBook Air, I had no problems with the SSD at all. Some formatting must be done, when the storage unit is installed, but nothing too complicated. When compared to Apple's prices for a model with more storage, this one is a no-brainer.

Excellent storage upgrade for Mac A1502/2014
Product came very well packaged, I managed to install the SSD and macOS Big Sur. I had to prepare the installation media prior to the SSD installation. Easy installation just takes a bit of time.Speed wise I’m not happy, is just a bit faster than the standard SSD but I get to enjoy 480GB of storage instead of 128GB.I tried getting Boot Camp to work with MVMe and an adapter and it would always go into a 64 error loop. With this SSD there was no problem, I now have both macOS and windows installed on my computer. Would highly recommend this product. I’d say is fully compatible, you get to enjoy all features of a standard SSD.If anything changes I will update this review.Overall I am a very happy costumer.

good but pricey
Expensive, but it was easy to install unlike other reviews say. No ideas what they are talking about. However I think the case price to hold the old removed drive is TOTALLY ridiculous. Worse is that when you realise it is handy to have, it is even more expensive and there really is nothing else on the market. We suffered this rather than pay 95 more. Null point.

Upgrade good
Bought this to upgrade my wife's MacBook Air 2017 13" and it works out very well, it's like a new machine and she is happy. I didn't get the case along with it, bit pricey to reuse the old 128GB chip as an external drive (with that extra £70 I could get a 2TB external drive with ease). Recommend two prerequisites: 1. Make sure to have a completed Time Machine backup; 2. Make a bootable macOS installation disk on a USB stick (need at least 16GB - can find instruction on Apple's support site - make sure it's the same version as the macOS currently installed on the old drive). Changing of the drives is straightforward, tools are included in the box. Once upgraded, boot the MacBook up with the USB stick into recovery mode, format the new drive (make sure to change the bootable sector to GUID partition map - click "View" dropdown on top left of Disk Utility), install a fresh copy of the macOS on the new drive first to make sure the new drive is bootable. Then, boot up again with the USB stick into recovery mode and do a Time Machine restore. Hope this helps.

Appears to work perfectly in my late-2013 Mac Pro
I bought this to replace a failed SSD in a late-2013 model Mac Pro.As expected, the package does not contain a T8 torx screwdriver (it does contain a P5 and T5 for working on MacBooks), so if you intent to work on a Mac Pro (not MacBook Pro), then you'll need to have your own T8 or buy one.It is a piece of cake to install, and takes perhaps two minutes to remove the old drive and replace it with the new one. There are very easy to follow videos online, but the only tip is to make sure that you do not try to angle the drive in, but slide the old one out vertically and drop the new one in vertically as well.Within a couple of minutes I had the Mac Pro back up and running and booted it holding down the Option key, which allowed it to connect to the Internet and automatically started the download of the original operating system that came with the Mac Pro (in my case, Yosemite). It would also have been a snap to boot it with a USB external drive and install an OS from backup if so desired. At this stage, I cannot comment on the long-term quality of the drive, but in terms of an instant on replacement for the original drive, I have to say that it is excellent, and I am very pleased with it.

Good replacement drive
The SSD on my wife's MacAir suddenly stopped working. This was a good replacement and has more capacity than the original. Fortunately, I was able to recover most of her data from the old disk and backups. Physical installation was easy - the difficult and time-consuming part was restoring the data. So far, it has worked well.

broke after only 2 months & at worst time ever!
Was working fine for just under 2months, then 2 hours b4 a life changing competition. Laptop crashes and on restart wouldn't recognise the drive. Tried everything possible & its just totally unreadable, can't even wipe it. Just replaced the old drive and laptop is 100% working. God knows what's wrong with it but just the timing was the worst ever!

Works great!
Works great, year 1/2 with this installed. Apple wanted $1300 to replace this drive when my original showed signs of issues. Could’ve bought a new computer for that price. This fixed my issues an gave me extra storage. Intial install was simple but there are some small things to do that require some legwork for full sync to update newer o.s versions

Great storage option for some under power/storage MacBook Air
It is a quality engineered storage product for some under power (storage) MacBook Air. I have a MacBook Air mode MacBookAir6,2. At the time when I acquire it a 128GB SSD seems okay. Since then the storage requirement growths exponentially. It's about time to upgrade the SSD. Transcend makes such a great product even comes with the right tools (screw drivers) for the replacement job. Now I have almost 4x of the original storage and put all my photo, video and iPhone backup together. I recommend it!
